We take a look at duffle enthusiats Gloverall’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. You’ll be unsurprised to hear it contains a lot of duffle fastenings and heavy wool. These are their bread and butter which means you won’t get any Thom Browne style surprises. Fashion needs a kick in the rear every now and then but steady-as-she-goes thinking is not something to turn your nose up at.

What they do they do well. Clever collaborations with the likes of bstore and the odd splash of attention grabbing colour in the shape of oranges and limes keeps things fresh while the classics march on. The fact is though the combination of oatmeal wool, wooden toggle and rope pull just works. Always has, probably always will.

We featured this bstore/Gloverall Spring Summer 2012 collaboration a while back and return for a closer look. The jackets have all been designed with bstore’s own Summer collection in mind, retaining some classic gloverall touches, y’know, all the good stuff that’s kept the British brand going since 1950. A toggle blackwatch tartan blazer, a charcoal leather trimmed car coat, 90’s style oversized parka and Molten wool navy coat are all on offer. As you’d expect from the coming together of these two excellent labels, something special that sits nicely between traditional and modern.

Get your Ron on with this Burgundy duffle coat. As far as trends go, the duffle is one that’s been bubbling for a few seasons now. While we’ve liked the duffle in theory, the heavy wool can get tiresome at the best of times and leave you smelling like a wet dog at the worst. Which is why we like this waxed cotton version. We all know about the positives of waxed cotton at this point, so making a duffle coat with it is just – as Don King would say – logicality. (Coggles)

More from Bread and Butter Berlin. England’s Gloverall is previewing their Spring/Summer 2012 offer. We preview two looks: one Gingham print technical jacket as well as a breton striped jersey. The jersey is a new play for the Gloverall line and maybe a bit unfamiliar to many coming to the line new. They’re also running with their throwback original labels. Good looks.

If you’re one of those folks who have to have a certain piece from a certain brand then a Gloverall duffle is an essential. And, if you live in one of those areas where spring showers are a guarantee then you could do a lot worse than this coat. And it’s made in London, which should please the details fanatics. YMC re-works another Gloverall classic for their Autumn 2010 season. While I sit here in the Cali heat, I think many may be preparing for the onslaught of the frigids. This coat may offer some protection at a reasonable price. Available in chocolate and navy colors.
