Made in collaboration with GQ – to be specific, it was created for the launch of their iPad app – it’s the usual handsome leather goodness we’ve come to expect. They can also be hand personalised, which is an added bonus for inscription addicts. And yes, there is such a thing as an inscription addict. Oki-Ni have a nice chat with H by Harris up on their site. They go into it about store’s buying habits, why Harris won’t be making seasonal collections and investment pieces. One choice quote is when Harris was asked about the difficulties of getting new talent into magazines.

There’s no one giving any direction. It’s the same with fashion magazines, the advertisers dictate what needs to be in the magazines, so fashion stories are diluted, at this point you realise that it is hard for new talent to come through. New brands are rarely showcased because the advertisers stipulate what is featured in each issue. So you think, what’s the point of anyone going to design college if only a small handful of people are going to get through?

London bag maker, H by Harris celebrates one year in business with a new short film, Fixed. Dazed has the scoop. “A year ago, after styling musicians like Mark Ronson and Kelly Rowland, and having worked with major fashion players such as Nike and French Connection, stylist Elliot Harris decided to swap seats and to give something back himself, rather than just using other people’s products. The result was H by Harris, a qualitative accessory label, focused on manufacturing luxury bags and luggage. Stocked in premier retail outlets such as DSM and Browns, Harris saw it fit to celebrate his first year of trading with a wee film. And here we are – filmed by Manny Bonett, Fixed is equally obsessed with bikes as H by Harris bags, but why choose when you can have both?”

Here’s another H By Harris pieces that’d benefit from being able to give it a good feel up. As you may know, nubuck leather is strokably soft – perfect for heavy petting. And at the price (£190) it’s a nice entry level piece for those H fans who don’t quite have the money to drop on one of his quilted jacket/backpack combos. The shape might not be butch enough for the dullards, but we’re sure you fashion forward folks could pull it off. (Browns)

One of the downsides of this internet thing is the loss of the tangible. If you saw this bag in person, all we’d need to say is ‘feel this bag’. But we don’t have that tangible here, so you’ll just have to trust us when we say that the leather is buttery soft. Like a bespoke suit or your best pair of shoes, this bag is too good for everyday use – just keep it for those times when you need to impress people. (Browns)

H by Harris launched the way most collections do these days – under a tidal wave of blog love. Thankfully, they’ve also found their way into a store that sells their wares online (so that’s DSM out of the equation). You should know the drill by now with H by Harris; clean lines, simple design, quilted leather – the whole shebang. It’s not cheap, but what did you expect? (Browns)

Style Salvage continue their run of great interviews, this time interviewing Harris Elliot. We featured the H by Harris collection back in June and it looks like it’s going from strength to strength, collaborating with the likes of B Store.

An interesting point Harris makes is about the over design of ‘luxury’ bags.

Generally the market has been over saturated with bags that are over embellished with zips and bits, I have designed a collection that is big on form low on unnecessary detailing, simple to look at, luxurious to touch.
