Oh chaps…. accent your head with a nice hat from the Borsalino collection for Spring Summer 2012. We went through the massive offering of hats to narrow down, I dunno, 34 looks that will work for almost all. I didnt see much leather in there, so avoid if that’s your preference, but for all others, the collection will compliment your routine well.

You hear the word “ancient” being used often in Florence when it comes to the fashion and textile industry. Hat makers, Grevi are another example of a business that has been around for longer than most – 1875 to be specific. The Florentine based factory pushed their in-house family label in the early 80’s and today their shop in the “ancient” city remains a destination for fine hat making. Here’s a look at their Autumn 2012 offering.

Stighlorgan of Dublin continue their straightforward line of accessories for Spring Summer 2012. “Stighlorgan embodies the tradition of Irish nomadic living; steadfast, resilient, embracing life. Each season a different aspect of travelling will form the mood & inspiration behind the season.” Expect lots of classic pieces; back packs, beenies, canvas belts and their own take on the drawstring bag, possibly the winner of the collection, in sturdy leather.

It is amazing to think of the amount of Italian garment and accessories makers that have been in business since the 1800’s. While the world of fashion has changed over the course of years and deacade, the master artisans of Italy just continue to their day to day operation as they would have centuries past. Master hat-maker Barbisio, in business since 1862, is a clear example of extraordinary work that goes beyond the description of timeless. Barbisio’s competence in their craft speaks for itself.

We only have one requirement for our hats – a hefty brim. The slim brimmed trilby was worn to death by lightweight wannabe rockers, so a change was always gonna come. We could ramble on (geddit?) but we’re just trying to buy more hats for our rather bare looking hat wall – shout out to Gay Talese. (Lock & Co)

Wooly hats! You need one on your head when it gets cold. You need one on your head when you’re having a bad hair day. Take it off when you get inside though, you’ll just look like a douche otherwise. (Opening Ceremony)

Talese the God waxes lyrical about hats. We wonder if Ray J has a hat closet?

We’ll be honest. We just don’t care whether something is knitted by hand and have never understood the use of hand knitting as a sales point. But we do like this Siu Yin Chau hat – because (a) it’s cashmere and will soothe your noggin and (b) it looks good. Anything else is just a nice bonus. (Opening Ceremony)

Representing America’s pastime, Ebbets Field Flannels crafts some of our favorite caps and varsity jackets. Founded by Jerry Cohen, this Seattle-based brand supplies some of our favorite classic sporting items.

Where are you from?

Originally, I’m from Brooklyn, New York. I’ve been in Seattle since 1986.

How did you start?

I started because I wanted to wear a vintage baseball jersey and nobody was making them at the time. All I wanted were several for myself. I was playing in bands. But, it became an obsession. I ended up tracking down original fabrics and bought it one piece at a time. People saw them and wanted to buy them. So, naturally, I started the business.

What are the key features of your brand?

Authenticity. Timelessness, I think this is the key feature. We don’t respond to trends, we believe historic American athletic clothing will always be in style. We are as true as we can be to the original manufactures of what we are now doing.

What’s it like being part of PROJECT 10?

It is really exciting for us. We don’t usually do tradeshows because of the complexity of the brand. This is ideal for us, to be surrounded by small creative brands. It is exciting as well to see what other people are doing in the industry.

Finally, what is your favorite thing about Vegas?

I like old school Las Vegas, what is left of it. Downtown. I’m trying to find the remaining few spots.
