Our friends at Kempt turn us onto a great article in the International Herald Tribune, which was originally published by the NYT, on Bill Cunningham, arguably one of the original street style photographers of the last century and beyond. We have to love Mr. Cunningham’s approach to the whole thing. In his own words, “The problem is I’m not a good photographer. To be perfectly honest, I’m too shy. Not aggressive enough. Well, I’m not aggressive at all. I just loved to see wonderfully dressed women, and I still do. That’s all there is to it.”

A great article over at IHT on the how sportswear is beginning to make more of an inroad into the luxury houses of fashion. It is a trend that may have been provoked due to the introduction of new start up brands looking to catch the eye of the higher end buyer. "ports has been a playground for designers frustrated by the status quo of the formal suit and tie side of a man’s wardrobe. Looking good does not always mean dressing up, and new sports brands are merging technical expertise with luxury and style to put casual gear on a par with high fashion."

The International Herald Tribune reports in this morning with a review of the Paris mens spring 09 collections commenting on the "volume and graphics" of accessories that looked to serve a purposed of more importance this runway season. "…And, as Paul Smith put it pragmatically backstage before his show, the focus on accessories – scarves, colorful belts and shoes – had a practical purpose as the financial clouds gather. A small purchase can give a fillip to a wardrobe, if strapped-for-cash men pass on a new suit."

A few weeks past, Susan Fenton wrote a great piece for IHT on the emerging market for haute couture in China. With their ever rising GDP, China’s fashon market is simply one of a handful of economies that can sustain and purchase the haute couture pricepoints. As well, this may fare well for the small number of people still employed in haute couture (view the BBC’s excellent documentary "Secret World of Haute Couture" for more information).
