Stylesight point us towards Adrian Johnson, an illustrator with a thing for midcentury, cartoon inspired design. Reminiscent of kids books of the era which often leant towards the psychadelic, the Liverpool born artist has exhibited across the globe and was a judge on the D&AD panel in 2010. With past clients including adidas Originals, Paul Smith, Stussy, The New York Times, UNICEF, and Monocle, Johnson’s very own brand of multicoloured madness is paying off.

The Brothers Burkman have been cutting up a storm recently, gaining plenty of new fans in Europe – including the likes of Dover Street Market, Liberty & L’Eclaireur – and they’ve just released these illustrated images to show off this collection. Illustrated by Michael Sanderson, they’re a great way to add life to a collection. There’s only so many pictures of dead eyed surly models in the woods we can take.

Pioneering works of natural history illustration on view at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Interest in the natural world over the course of the 19th-century generated an enormous visual record produced by artists and naturalists alike. Fascination with detail forms a constant thread, even as debates raged over the best way to display, exhibit, and record “discoveries.” Feathers, Fins, and Fur: Natural History Illustration of the 19th-Century privileges the works of Alexander Wilson and John James Auduboun, and introduces a range of lesser known illustrators. Additionally, the exhibition draws from the institution’s library collection to explore preservation of natural artifact through print.

On view through May 23, 2010.
