Selectism - Bokusho-installation-01

Handsome installation alert! That’s right, we do alerts for that sort of thing now, we’re snazzy like that. Designer Shun Kawakami recently did this for Isetan in Japan. We could go on about the tranquility but it just looks good, wouldn’t you agree? Of course you do. Take a leap to see more. (Spoon & Tamago)

Selectism - 2011 shotbyjake

Curated lets us know about this:

“For the third annual visual arts commission, the Park Avenue Armory has chosen to work with artist and composer Ryoji Ikeda. The artist’s installation “the transfinite” occupies much of the buildings 55,000 square foot drill hall, offering a first chance for an American audience to experience his work. Subsuming the crowd with abstract expressions of digital code accompanied by a tight composition, Ikeda meditates on the concept of infinity.”

Curated recaps the Krink event:

“Zimoun’s sound sculptures and installations are graceful, mechanized works of playful poetry, their structural simplicity opens like an industrial bloom to reveal a complex and intricate series of relationships, an ongoing interplay between the «artificial» and the «organic».”

Selectism - Dunhill Autumn/Winter 2010 Installation by Campaign

This is our second look (first is here) at the Dunhill installation in NYC’s Meatpacking. We’re bringing it to attention once again with the help of strong images from Weheart. “Recreating, in a beautifully ghostly manner, Bourdon House – the London home of Alfred Dunhill – Campaign’s unique installation played host to dunhill’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection in a fascinatingly unique interpretation of London’s buzzing Mayfair.”

Kienholz: The Hoerengracht

Walked through The Hoerengracht instillation at the National Gallery (London) yesterday, and was most impressed with the interpretation of the exhibition. Curator Colin Wiggins ties the sculptural work, composed by Ed and Nancy Kienholz in the mid-80s, to visual traditions well established in European art. Unlike a few other exhibitions focused on a single piece, visitors are not overwhelmed by comparative works here. It’s a quick lesson and then into the experience. Well worth popping in if your in London, it’s on view through February 21, 2010.

The above video gives an indication of the feel of walking through the Kienholz vision of Amsterdam’s Red Light District, as well as an introduction to Wiggins interpretation.
