selectism - Joe Kessler: Landfill for It's Nice That Editions Print

We neglected this news last month, but now that the Holiday rush is over and we’re again sinking teeth full on into things we love the time is right. It’s Nice That have teamed with Landfill Editions to release an extended series of limited edition prints. Joe Kessler offered the first. We hope, as It’s Nice That suggests, the promise of new prints bi-monthly holds true.

Selectism - its-nice-that-01

One of our favourite blogs out there, It’s Nice That, have just released the third issue of their magazine. It’s a logical extension to the site, collecting the their best features from the site and expanding on them into feature length interviews and features. As you’d expect from a design blog, it’s a handsome looking magazine and uses several tricks of the trade – the cover utilises foil blocking – to make it stand out from the usual newsstand fare. selectism - if-you-could-collaborate-01

As magazines edge into niche and prices continue creeping up, we’re seeing more one off magazines that are aimed purely at a unique form of promotion. One such magazine is ‘If You Could Collaborate’, a magazine made for the upcoming art exhibition of the same name. As you’d expect, it focuses on the collaborations in the exhibition posting in depth interviews, drafts and photos from the artists involved. There’s only 1,500 in stock, so anyone dying to get hands on this should get their trigger fingers ready. (It’s Nice That)

Selectism - It's Nice That Issue #2 Launch

This magazine works. As we reported back when issue #1 launched, It’s Nice That is a collection of good stuff from the London based web site. “Following the success of our first sold-out printed publication, we are pleased to announce Issue #2 will be released on Thursday 1 October. Inside the publication you’ll find 128 pages of advertising-free content, documenting the best of the work we’ve featured on the site in the past six months…and features written by current practitioners that have never been seen before.”

To celebrate the launch of the issue, It’s Nice That is previewing the issue with their first ever exhibition at the White House in Portobello as part of “The Dock” as part of London Design Festival 2009.

It’s Nice That Issue #1

its nice that issue 01 Its Nice That Issue #1

Nothing makes us happier than seeing our favorite online sites compiling their writing to hard print in the form of bi-annuals. It’s Nice That is a great example of a website taking very strong content from screen to the shelves. “However much we love posting and reading articles online, there’s still no substitute for holding a beautifully printed object in your hands. Because of this we publish a physical incarnation of the blog twice a year, aiming to archive the most interesting posts from the previous six months as well as commission more in-depth features and interviews.”

Issue #1 of It’s Nice That is available now and feature work by Peter Callesen, Bryan Dalton, Karl Grandin, Happypets, Myoung Ho Lee, Oliver Jeffers, PES, and many others. Nothing beats holding printed matter especially the type you love to browse and read. Well done.
