Mr. Williams skipped over to the latest J. Crew Men’s Shop buildout at 484 Broadway for a very personal tour of the new space. As Mr. Williams mentions, the new space is a bit less directional than the Liquor Store digs, but offers shoppers just as an expansive collection of goods as the former. “So basically, there are special items likeSuperior Labor tote bags, Alden shoes, staplers, Mister Freedom clothing and all of the basics that you have come to expect from J.Crew. A good combination if you ask me.”

This J. Crew large gingham pattern shirt was featured in what looks to be the first of many Spring Shirting features on Secret Forts. The oversized pattern on the ultra soft shirt looks to work well with everything from trouser, denim, to shorts. “Tailored fit—a slimmer cut with a made-to-measure feel. Point collar. Mister Mort has some first looks at the forthcoming J. Crew Autumn/Winter 2009 collection including a variety of footwear collaborations that will keep the Liquor Store crowd very pleased. An Alden INdy Boot is in the works for J. Crew as well as a series of Redwing boots and Russell Moccasins. Expect more from the J. Crew Liquor Store including vintage belts Inverallan fisherman’s sweaters. Looking good bro.

Covered briefly when we first looked at the J. Crew Spring 2009 collection, this limited edition postal bag is handcrafted and “meticulously” finished in American leather. The postal bag is a replica of mailbags used for more than one hundred years by the US Postal Service before they moved onto canvas bags. “Designed to improve with age, our hand-oiled, hand-stained, hand-burnished postal messengers are sewn by experienced artisans on century-old leather machines.” An excellent bag for the everyman. We walked into the J. Crew Liquor Store in Tribeca, NYC this afternoon and discovered this bargain of a oilcloth peacoat. “All-weather casual in oiled cotton from the British Millerain Co. Ltd. (est. 1880). Double-breasted. Underarm metal eyelets for ventilation” and much more. Pricing in at 298$US, this is a great price for a quality overcoat.

J.Crew has been on a roll this year releasing great product and shopping concepts. The latest to catch my eye is their Sherpa Shirt-jacket. It features a traditional Rob Roy tartan in midweight, yarn-dyed flannel with a supersoft, superwarm sherpa lining. Body is lined with faux-shearling sherpa, and sleeves are lined with quilted nylon.

Eyewear boutique, Selima Optique, teams with J. Crew on two Rivintgton sunglass frames. Available in tortioise or black, the Selima for J. Crew sunglasses are made from rhodoid, a natural hypoallergenic material while the lenses are made from military-issue G-15 dark green plastic, the same quality used in Selima aviator glasses. J. Crew does it right, again, with this proper military inspired watch collaboration with Timex.
