Translucent? See-through? Diaphanous?* Whatever you want to call it, this is Passarella’s newest jacket. Inspired by the jacket worn by ‘Rep’ in Blade Runner, it’s made in Italy and available for SS12.. It’s exactly the sort of thing you’d wear when you’re in a hellish view of the near future, giving someone the almighty runaround. Or down the pub on a rainy day. One of the two.

Ignore the upcoming H&M range.  Anything made for H&M is similar to Marni’s mainline in looks only. We’re a little confused by the collab as Marni’s calling card is their use of fabrics – this jacket’s made of alpaca and leather – and high quality construction. Anyway, enough scrooge-esque moaning from us, this is a lovely coat.

It’s mid-december, which means it’s now officially ’silly to buy anything for full price when it’ll be going on sale in two weeks’ time. We do admit that the name needs some work. But if you have an especially lovely partner who’s into all this dressing nice lark then this jacket would be a nice little gift. And of course, the contrast sleeves mean that it’ll look equally as fetching on you should you decide to keep it for yourself. (End)

All these winter jackets are getting rather serious with their technical this and heritage that. If you’re going for that ‘climbing on the regular’ look or hope to give off the ‘wealthy European ski fiend’ vibe then that’s fair enough. However, sometimes you want something that will keep you warm but also bring a smile to your face with it’s upbeat detail and colourful ease. This number does both, a joint effort from Penfield and traditional Shetland knitwear manufacturers Jamieson’s, get happy over at Coggles.

You guys still know that everything’s better in Japan right? Well it is. And the proof is exhibit A, pictured above. Tom Kay, founder of Technical apparel brand Finisterre, spent his childhood by the sea, set himself up with a marine biology degree and went about challenging, in his words, “the villains of the day…big corporate surf companies making cheap cotton t-shirts in far flung, unnamed factories that they’d sell to folk who had never been near the water”. The aim was to keep production as ethical as possible, using recycled and natural products as well as keeping each stage of prodution traceable via the i-spy project map on their website. A brand with both a strong sense of community and of its responsibilty to the surrounding environment. We take a look at the Etobicoke, modelled by champion cyclist James Bowthorpe, the jacket is wind and waterproof, filled with primaloft eco synthetic insulation and tested on sherpas at the bottom of Everest just to make sure everything’s in order. We rarely dream about collaborations anymore. Most of the ones we hoped would happen have done just that. The rest have been executed with such varying degrees of success that we’ve become a little gunshy. No such fears when we first heard the words ‘Junya’ and ‘Mackintosh’ though. If the coming together of two brands could ever be a safe bet it was this pair. We continue our admiration with this fireman inspired raincoat.
