Rather young brand Public School has caught our interest right from the beginning, when we first saw the collection at Capsule in New York. The smart addition of little details and interesting cuts made them stand out, without the use of color at all actually.

In their Autumn/Winter 2008 collection we came across the Goodland Jacket. The black varsity style jacket comes with a heavy wool exterior and debatable leather sleeves, thus you can also wear it as a vest.

As part of their Autumn/Winter 2008 collection, Engineered Garments presents this interpretation of the Field Parka. The wrinkled wool upper looks great and makes it easy to wear with lots of different combinations and styles. At 575$ USD we would not call it a bargain, but it is worth it for sure.

The folks behind the Japanese “Research” brands are anything but low minded folk. Through exhaustive research, the products they present capture the best details, cuts, fabrics and styles of their chosen theme. Mountain Research, naturally, results in some stunning outerwear. Garbstore, the only outlet in the world to carry some of the larger sizes of Mountain Research, has just received the latest. There is a garment bag, and a ton of good things to stuff it with. Coats of several varieties, sharp shirts, rugby’s and even a basic long-sleeve. A bit of new Navel Research has also arrived, so if you’re thinking more coast than hill top, that’s covered.

Band of Outsiders has done a great job taking the traditional hunting jacket and updating the fit with these new jackets and hoodie. Made in the USA from 100% wool, the Band of Outsiders offering slims the silhouette and includes a single breast pocket. The hoodie version drops the breast pocket but adds the expected hood to the shape. All the jackets and hoodie include a warm quilt liner.  Availble now from Context.

J.Crew has been on a roll this year releasing great product and shopping concepts. The latest to catch my eye is their Sherpa Shirt-jacket. It features a traditional Rob Roy tartan in midweight, yarn-dyed flannel with a supersoft, superwarm sherpa lining. Body is lined with faux-shearling sherpa, and sleeves are lined with quilted nylon.

If you are in the need of a well cut premium winter coat, that you can wear every day and that perfectly manages the balance between casual and chic, then Fay is always a solid brand to go with. Fay is part of Tod’s and is especially known for their coats with inner down vests.

This season they present a nice line-up of coats, jackets, blazers and more. It seems like they got a little inspired by Moncler this season, but they added their signature smart look to it.

Not everyone is into the sheen of the Moncler movement nor the on-going strength of Patagona and North Face outerwear looks in the USA. Many alternatives exist in the outerwear world. Since the 70’s. Britian’s Puffa Originals have been well recognized for their two tone colorways. “Puffa Originals are a design classic, fit for purpose, the jackets and gilets capture the essence of British sporting spirit, adventure and excellence.” If you skied Europe back in the day, then Puffa should very familiar.

We have been fans of Shades Of Greige for a minute now. In their Autumn/Winter 2008 collection, the brand presents some well tailored jackets, that are easy to wear, easy to match, but definitely not boring.

Our favorites in the line-up are the M-65 and the waxed cotton Officer’s coat. Both are now available from Context.

United Arrow’s Beauty & Youth line brings the classic quilted jackets of Britian’s Lavenham to the shore of Japan with two excellent color options. The Lavenham jackets are very practical and still seem throughout countrysides and carriage houses. We’re loving the deep green and greys that Beauty & Youth has chosen for their looks.
