(capsule) NY | Taylor Supply

selectism - (capsule) ny | taylor supply

It’s cool how NY and Taylor Supply rhyme, right? Probably the reason the company chose to produce all their garments in the Big Apple…

Bad lines aside (i.e. those words above), the real reason for local production is a genuine appreciation for manufacture and a desire to get up close and personal with the process. Though much of the fabric is sourced from Japanese mills, the Taylor Supply team takes great pride in knowing their factories. This may seem par for the course these days, but the idea remains important.

For Spring 2010 they’ve worked from an early 2oth-century industrial/nautical theme. The jackets we’re showing are the Hillclimber and the Whaler. No prizes for guessing that the jacket with anchor buttons is the whaler.

Check them out after the leap.

First Look | Perfecto by Schott N.Y.C. Spring 2011

09 July 2010, 12.28 | Posted in Fashion | 4 comments »

selectism - first look

While Jason and Jeff are enjoying the spoils of Berlin, I took a quick ride up the New Jersey Turnpike to visit handsome Elizabeth, New Jersey.

The purpose of the trip? To view the Perfecto by Schott N.Y.C. Spring 2011 collection. Literally fresh off the factory floor, the new collection highlights the best of the best from Schott’s 98 year history. New Schott creative directory, Greg Chapman (seen above fitting me in a Mountain Parka), explains, “The Perfecto Brand by Schott NYC is for men with high taste levels who understand the construction, materials and history behind the garments. The pieces are not based on trend; the styles have been passed down in the Schott family for nearly 100 years. These jackets are built to last for decades.”

In the name, Chapman pays homage to Schott’s first ever collection, released in 1928. In that year, Irving Schott took advantage of the growing motorcycle market by introducing a line of leather jackets named for his favorite cigar – the Perfecto. Today the line continues to be manufactured in these United States, with emphasis on local sourcing an added bonus.

The Perfecto by Schott N.Y.C. line will debut officially on July 19, 2010 at (Capsule) NY. A full first look preview and the specs for all four jackets in the collection comes after the jump.

nanamica x The North Face Purple Label Wind Coat

The North Face Purple is one of those brands that we deeply regret not being able to get outside of Japan. nanamica is in charge of the brand and presents fantastic pieces every season, fusing The North Face heritage with technical materials. Today we came across this new wind coat from the line. The yellow will always remain a classic on these kinds of jackets and nanamica adds some nice fabrics, as well as technical features to it, while overall keeping the classic appeal. A perfect companion for the rainy Spring and brisk summer nights. (AC)

Les Hommes Hood Jacket

07 May 2010, 13.20 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Les Hommes Hood Jacket

As much as we like it simple and classic, we also appreciate smart and innovative construction in clothing. That is the case with this new hood jacket from the Les Hommes Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. We love the beige tone of it and the mix of blazer, hoodie and vest. We were first not sure about the silk hood, but once you see the back of the jacket it all makes sense again and that mixed with a classic 3-pocket front definitely makes it work for us. The jacket is now available from Restir.

More views of the Les Homme jacket follow after the jump.
