EDWIN denim gets together with Yohji Yamamoto Inc. for the introduction of Yohji Jeans – a new collaborative line between the two Japanese brands. The signature Yohji line looks to be a production and distribution deal where the designer has licensed his name for the work. ”Naked” is the first collection from Yohji Jeans, “a metaphor for rebirth evoking the pureness of the line and the simplicity of the wardrobe.” Look for the collection to land in shops around June 2012.

A look behind the scenes at their Japanese factory, these guys take the process of jean making very seriously. “The denim technicians at Edwin are true craftsmen, as their commitment and attention to the product is unquestionably what makes the Edwin product stand out from the mass of denim available within the market today. Whilst this remains ‘production’, the working philosophy remains closer to a greatly more efficient and productive Artisanal method.”

Great little interview with Roy Slaper of Roy jeans over at 189. A self-taught creator of solid selvedge jeans, Roy took an interest in denim and old machinery and turned it into a much sought after label, everything crafted by his own fair hands and a selection of well used vintage sewing machines. A one man mission to take denim back to basics.

Mike Hodis of Rising Sun jeans knows a thing or two about making denim. Their Pasadena based store is a temple of indigo housing their retail space and a workshop dedicated to the cause of blue. With quality and integrity at the top of the agenda Mike gives us a peek into the construction process and highlights the importance of passion for the product. -ld

Imogene + Willie, is a denim company started in Nashville, Tennessee that prides itself in American history. The brand manufactures all their garments in-house and only use the best selvedge denim from Cone Mills. Brand founders, Carrie and Matt offer us the “Willie Jean in Barton Natural,” for the summer. A jean named after Carrie’s brother, Bart, the jean holds a slim straight fit with a slight tapered leg and a lower rise. A great new company that holds history as a true influence for the perfect pair of jeans.

The Spring/Summer 2011 collection from Patrik Ervell brings his views of the ideal pair of cotton twill pants. The jeans come in a slim cut with a lightweight twill in a light blue fabric. Silk is used along the waistband  which is interested. The race is on to create the best pair of twill pants for summer. Ervell comes really close. Made in the U.S.A. (m&s)

San Francisco, CA contemporary boutique, AB Fits, shows us their recent in-house denim line. The “Lot 1196″ slim fit jean is made of a sanforized 13.75oz Cone Mills White Oak fabric. The jeans have a “military black concave button fly with dome burrs” and tobacco stitching. Each garment in hand crafted in San Francisco and is available exclusively at AB Fits.
