Casely-Hayford for John Lewis Chapman Satchel

Selectism - Casely-Hayford-John-lewis-chapman-bag

The Casely-Hayford collab with John Lewis is one that tends to garner less attention than, say, the Lanvin for H&M but we know which of the collabs we prefer. One’s empty bluster on clothes that will last the usual H&M lifespan (one wash) and the other’s actually made to last. One of the products that’s been brought to our attention is this messenger bag. Made with Chapman, it’s a good example of a good thing well done. And it’s definitely one for dad at Christmas. You can always steal it back from him on Boxing day. It’s only available in store, so you’ll have to get yourself to a John Lewis near you.

Joe Casely-Hayford for John Lewis Quilted Leather Jacket

Who’d have thought that John Lewis would be making an appearance on these pages? Not us, for one. The most middle class department store in the world (and that’s verified fact) surprised everyone when they announced their collaboration with Joe Casely-Hayford.

Now that the virtual dust is settling, here’s one piece that we’re especially fond of. Whilst quilted jackets are dangerously close to being played out (in the UK, at least) there’s always room for something that’s this handsome. You can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll look ten times better than the folks who bought cheap versions from TK Maxx. (John Lewis)

When news broke of Casely Hayford’s upcoming capsule collection for John Lewis, our feelings could be described with one word – bemusement. But now we’ve seen the collection, thanks to folks at Style Salvage, we’re firmly on board. With knitwear created by John Smedley, jackets made by Barbour (the shortest jacket Barbour’s ever made) and shoes by Cheaney, the collection looks to focus on quality as well as an affordable price point. The collection features 30 pieces in total and will be available from John Lewis physical and online stores from March.

Take that leap to see a short preview of the collection.

selectism - casely-hayford-spring-2010-shoes-01

Forgive us, we’re a day late and a dollar short with this one. We first heard this on the twitter grapevine and assumed someone, anyone, would be blogging about it. Turns out no one did, so we thought we’d get in on it.

The father/son duo Casely-Hayford, who’ve been exciting bloggers with their mainline and shoe collection, are working on a collaboration with UK-based department store John Lewis. It’s a little surprising, given John Lewis’ reputation as being a little fusty and old school and the Hayford’s reputation for subverting the fusty and old school.  Whatever the end result, it’s sure to be an interesting one.
