What’s happening here then? Canadian store Roden Gray present their Spring/Summer 2012 stock via this mysterious film. Showcasing labels such as Junya Watanabe, Thom Browne and Alden, cinematographer Peter Hagge captures actor John J. Mackie, our hero/villain, on a rainy Vancouver night. Whisky + Face Splashing + Furrowed Brow = Something’s up. Hats off to Roden on a quality production.

Junya Watanabe Man offers this Bandana Print scarf, legitimately allowing you to wear this pattern once again. Yeah, we’re talking to you, guy who spent his teens with one tied around his forehead in an ill-judged homage to Axl Rose. Behind you is that other guy. The one who attempted the neckerchief then realised his neck/head proportions meant he looked more like a stewardess. This substantial alternative is 100% wool and will work with just about anything; work garms, weekend garms, indoors-wear, thanks to the understated shade of blue and subtle paisley pattern. Goodhood has them.

We rarely dream about collaborations anymore. Most of the ones we hoped would happen have done just that. The rest have been executed with such varying degrees of success that we’ve become a little gunshy. No such fears when we first heard the words ‘Junya’ and ‘Mackintosh’ though. If the coming together of two brands could ever be a safe bet it was this pair. We continue our admiration with this fireman inspired raincoat. Like every menswear blogger in the world right now, we can’t resist a bit of Watanabe. Now that everyone’s creamed themselves over the varsities, it’s time to look at some other bits from the collection – like this knitted overshirt. If you want a tweak or a twist Watanabe is your guy, the only thing stopping us from not going head to toe Watanabe is our lack of a sugar momma to supply our habit. Junya MAN for Autumn 2011 is coming along nicely. Check this padded vest they worked with the masters at Duvetica. “This fully reversible goose-down padded Gilet features corduroy and tweed panelling as well as the a plaid cotton inner, combining bold styling with all the warmth and protection from the elements you’d expect.” END has them.

Another gem from Junya, these field pants feature lots of traditional touches: webbed side adjustment, button welt pockets, fishtail back and double button fly. The fit is straight and wide like the orginals and include a rather nice houndstooth lining around the waist. See Goodhood for more.

Junya has been receiving a wave of press as of late, and deservedly so. Another example of his progressive (and often flamboyant) design skill comes in the form of the Contrast Placket shirt. The shirt includes a variety of special details; a dark chambray front placket which provides a subtle contrast to the body of the garment, an inverted box pleat, houndstooth yoke/cuff lining and a cotton twill tape finishing the length of chambray. Though the various accents may sound terribly busy, they do sit well together, reaffirming Junya’s lofty spot on our collective style radar. Available at Union Los Angeles. -jr
