Sometimes we forget that Louis Vuitton makes more than just super ubiquitous bags, so this Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook is a nice reminder of that. Of course, ever since Kim Jones landed at the label, it’s been easier to remember and his debut collection is sturdy to behold.

The designer took inspiration from his childhood in South Africa, and it shows, as the collection is a studious blend of cosmopolitan cleanliness and safari breeze (can not believe we just typed that). Try as we might we are having trouble getting behind the sandals, however. Sandals being a tough-sell in general and these looking like simplified Tevas.

Kim Jones has had an interesting few years. After taking the helm at Dunhill for a short period, the designer landed recently at Louis Vuitton and has clearly made waves that the industry is taking note of. Last night in London, Kim Jones walked home with as “Best Menswear” designer at the British Fashion Awards. His Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Vuitton, which debuted in Paris had everyone talking. The accolade handed at at The Savoy in London will put a smile on many.

Other notable winners from the British Fashion Awards 2011 include Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen as “Designer of the Year.” Paul Smith also took home an award for “BFC Outstanding Achievement in Fashion.” Congratulations to all the winners.

South Korea’s Bean Pole collaborated for a second time with designer, Kim Jones. The Bean Pole Autumn/Winter 2011 collection, available in the USA exclusively through Opening Ceremony, features a full line of garments including shirts, knits, pants, and jackets. The palette remains youthful and colorful; as expected by the Bean Pole consumer. Graphics are inspired by artist, Ed Ruscha.

Kim Jones has been named as the new men’s ready to wear and style director at Louis Vuitton. Jones has been under the radar since leaving Dunhill a few seasons ago, so this is a little out of the blue. The rumours were swirling for a few days now and it was officially announced today and re-iterated on Jones’ twitter page this morning. We look forward to seeing his new work.

Now that was fast! Yesterday many outlets reported on  Kim Jones stepping down as Dunhill’s creative director. Dunhill’s Cristopher Coffer is quoted in an official press release: “Kim has made a valuable contribution to the creative development of Alfred Dunhill over the past 2½ years,” Colfer’s statement said. His collections have been both commercial and greatly appreciated and therefore we are sorry to see him go but his departure is in line with the original planning and strategy for the brand. Men.style does it again with some looks of the first collection by Kim Jones for Dunhill. Featuring everything you would expect from a mens lines, the full collection will be unveiled next season in Paris.

According to WWD talks are going on about Kim Jones taking over the creative direction of Dunhill. We have always liked the sporty style by the designs, but we don’t really see the fit with Dunhill so far. One thing is for sure, it will be interesting to see what Kim Jones does with the brand, should he take over! We’ll keep you posted!
