The season for shawl knits is creeping up on us. For many the acceptable face of the cardigan there’s just something special about having an ear warming collar to pull up on a cold day. Selectism - Rapha Knitted Hats

Another strong product from the Rapha family of goods. Their knitted cap is a nice take on the classic ear muff protectors. “Made from 100% merino wool, Rapha’s Knitted Hat offers comfort and protection on even the coldest days. Styled in a traditional Belgian shape, the hat has a knitted peak and a ribbed earband. Featuring a contrast stripe, the earband can be worn up or down depending on the conditions.”

We get asked a good deal of questions in regards to knitwear companies. The one name that continually comes up is Denmark’s S.N.S Herning. This banded cardigan may be one of the best example of their fine work. Made from the highest quality wool on the same machines used to build their knits back in the 1930’s, this cardigan weighs in at just over 2.5 pounds. The braiding is immaculate. You cannot go wrong with this piece. Get it now from Super-market.

Farah Shawl Collar Knit Sweaters

farah shawl collar knit sweater front Farah Shawl Collar Knit Sweaters

Farah may have gotten its burst in Britain during the 70’s but the line has its roots in Texas USA. Like way back – 1920’s to be exact. Back then, El Paso, TX was the “jean capital of the USA” and the Farah family opened doors to move their quality wears before the economy and Depression forced their hand into the military world. Luckily the casual wear survived in its own right. Proper for the season are these shawl collar knit sweaters. They’re made from 70/30 acrylic/wool and are fashioned with a detailed leather knotted button. Available in Red Sky or Midnight Blue from Hip Leeds. A great alternative to the Swedish knits if you prefer.

South2 West8 produced two knit sweaters paying homage to patterns designed by the Cowichan Tribe of British Columbia, Canada. The Cowichan Tribe lived in climate where winters required heavy layering to keep warmth. The Cowichan target pattern delivered in black and white wool (and the reverse) may be a simple design but speaks chapters about it’s heritage and roots. Find it now at Nepenthes.
