SNS Herning with the help of END preview their Spring Summer 2012 offering of fine knitwear. Three garments pop out: The port sweater originally designed for North Sea harbor workers is a layering sweater meant to add that extra insulation in the coldest of times (then again these are Spring items). The classic Stark cardigan made from virgin wool and a bubble-knit texture patter has been in the SNS Herning family since 1971. The classic trim sweater is a navy cut made for rugged wear. Dig in.

Our favorite Australian motorcycle guys, Deus, have released their Autumn 2010 line. It’s cool, casual, Saturday afternoon in the garage gear… and, that’s a vibe we can totally buy into. The collection includes a mix of crews (like the above logo sweat) and hooded pieces. A solid balance of simply branded and printed material is also struck.

Esquire UK’s blog digs into their closet for a look at five of their favorite “chunky knit sweaters for the Winter. They are indeed fine picks but I personally would have rather seen five true brands rather than doubling up on the Banana Republic offering. The Gantuk by GANT knit is a wonderful standout from the set.

With a nod to Sami culture, the “Trajja Herk” sweater from Denim Demon continues the brands progression with garments that complement the core product. This item features traditional south Sami colors in the strips and a handmade antler button. Reindeer and antlers, too, speak to the cultural heritage inspiring the piece.

Men.style comes through with some looks at the new knitwear line from Freeman’s Sporting Club of NYC. Keeping the high standard gentleman’s class that FSC is known for the knits are constructed from only the finest of textiles. As men.style puts it,  ”there are no surprises to be found here, which is, all things considered, a good thing: Just classic shapes in fine fabrications, like the 100-percent-alpaca cardigan  and the Peruvian-made alpaca-and-wool heavy knit. Great stuff if you can get it.”

We love Japan’s Lad Musician for many reasons. The most important being that you can indeed find the line outside of Japan – both in the North America and the EU. Another being that they make the basics that are built to last. Their collection of mohair knit cardigans are right on target with their long form fit and knit work. Seeing as Mohair is considered stronger and more durable than wool, it’s no surprise Lad Musician used this textile in production.

Norway’s Arne & Carlos offers some seasonally proper sweaters and cardigans, that should not be confused with the Cosby style sweaters which some believe are in for a comeback. When the Scandinavians work over knits with local patterns, they come off proper and authentic. The patterened cardigan in white is favorite. If you can pull this off, you win.

Haver Sack Japan continues it push West with some new knit and button down looks for Fall 2008. Take their long sleeve "Granded Knit" with its red shash style striping or the "Small Collar" heavyweight cotton pullover. "This piece has a narrow yoke at the back, small collar and buttoned half placket with V shaped bib front." Available now from oki-ni.
