Victorinox German Military Issue Pocket Knife

The real deal: German issue pocket knives available on this side of the Ocean. “These are brand newVictorinox knives made exclusively for the German Army (Bundeswehr) with olive drab nylon handles. We are very impressed with the one handed opening blade that locks open. The closed size can best be described as “just right” or 4 3/8″. This is not your father’s Swiss Gentleman’s Knife. This is a real work tool that won’t let you down.” If you did not know Country COMM before, you’ll be thanking us now.

Hublot Knives and Razor by Jacques-Elie Ribeyron

ECAL (Ecole Cantonale de L’Art de Lausanne) student Jacques-Elie Ribeyron presents his master project of the Mas-Lux program, a mix of industrial and luxury design. The designer created two projects in collaboration with Swiss watch maker Hublot – a knife set and a razor set.

Inspired by the materials and looks of Hublot watches, Jacques-Elie Ribeyron presents some more unusual products with Hublot branding.

“The razors are a manual trimmer, a razor and a shaving brush. The main idea of the project was to take inspiration in the tools that men were using in the early 50’s. Today with commercial products such as mach 3 the ritual of shaving have been lost because of too much functionality. This set is designed to be as simple of possible, using only stainless steel to be recycled after the life cycle of the product. Both can be disassembled easily to be cleaned. The razor works with safety blades such derby or personna. The shaving brush has an angle to let the hairs dry properly.

The Hublot cheese knives were designed to cut some big pieces of hard paste cheese such as Etivaz (Hublot produces its own Etivaz in Switzerland). The set has a cutter and a fork. They come in a sleeve to be carried easily. The blades are made of stainless steel with a pvd treatment for the black color. Handles are mad of anodized aluminum and the Hublot screws of stainless too.”

The two projects have won the Prix d’exellence at ECAL and we could not agree more.

Detailed images of the Hublot Knives and Razors follow after the jump.

CXXVI Scrimshaw Pocket Knife

Selectism - CXXVI Scrimshaw Pocket Knife

My father gave me a Portuguese pocket knife a few years ago. He gets very pissed off when it is recalled and not at my disposal. We think you need one as well (it does not have to be Portuguese). Of course, we would recommend removing it for flights, but a good pocket knife should be at hand for every gent. Here’s a Made in Maine, USA scrimshaw knife found over on Blackbird. “Two blade pocket knife hand etched in a small workshop in Maine. The scrimshaw is inked with black india ink and sealed with 2 coats of archival wax to protect the intricate design and to enhance the beauty of the ivory. The knife handle is bone and measures 4 1/8″ folded.”

More looks at the CXXVI Scrimshaw Pocket Knife after the click.

neolithic knife front NeoLithic Ceramic Cooking Knives

Taking inspiration from the utilitarian cooking implements of generations (long) passed, designer Matthias Kaeding has fashioned a new version of the neolithic knife. The ceramic knives have both blunt and sharp sides, allowing a full range of kitchen tasks in a single tool. A touch more attractive than the typical chefs knife, and certainly fuller in capacity.
