After Mr. Hare’s choices, we decided to catch up with head designer of Kolor, Junichi Abe, and quiz him on his top 5. Take a look and listen after the leap.

We’re developing quite the thing for crushed leather buttons here at SL. This time they feature on this Kolor 2/3 button blazer. Like most 2/3 button blazers, this can either be worn with the two lower buttons alone or it could be worn as shown in the pic above. If you were to do the former option,  the lapels would cover the top button and provide a more classic blazer look; the latter gives it more of a ‘pop your collar’ look. Our advice? wear it how you want, it’ll look great either way. (Arks)

Eschewing seasonal collections, Kolor continues their focus on ’sophisticated comfort’. Their SS10 colllection embodies that philosophy, featuring wide leg chinos, trousers, relaxed jackets and jogging bottoms. Their loafers are accomplished for a company only entering their second season of footwear. The fulfill their duty of complimenting the main collection and being desirable pieces on their own. Blazers are Kolor’s calling card and this season is no different; focusing on relaxed, crumpled blazers that’d be suitable for wear well into the spring season.

Like everyone else in fashion (or ’style’ if you like to think you’re above fashion) we’ve fallen for tweed. And while we love it in a blazer, it’s nice to see someone attempting something different with it. Kolor have taken up that challenge, making a shawl neck bomber jacket using the material. It’s not something you’d see everyday, which is what makes it such a great piece. It’s available from Museum Arks right now, but we’d advise holding off until the likes of Opening Ceremony and Browns get their orders in. (Musuem Ark)

We featured Kolor’s AW09 collection a while back, so now it’s out (in Japan at least) we can take another look. We’re big fans of pieces that do double duty; give us anything that can double as something else and we’re happy campers – so a cardigan/jacket was always going to float our collective boat. Right now this piece is only available at Arks, but as both Opening Ceremony and Browns carry Kolor, it’s only a matter of time before you non Proxy-ers/Japan-dwellers can get your hands on this. In Tokyo and stuck for things to do? Then take a trip to Kolor’s new flagship store, which opened last week. News of an opening rather than a closing always pleases us, so we were glad to see just how well Kolor’s store turned out to be. It’s a big store for a young brand and the furnishings perfectly compliment’s Kolor’s Aesthetic. If you’re around Tokyo at any point in the future, be sure to give this place a look.

We’re back with a look at the Kolor Tunic Jacket after spending some time with the Autumn/Winter collection not too long ago. “kolor says their clothes are the mix of three elements: the texture of the materials, unique cutting, and specific sewing techniques. all three can be seen in this blazer cut jacket. jacket features a raised collar, large front pockets, and a unique sturdy but stretchy material for a perfect fit. available in glen check.” (openingceremony)

One of the (few) positives about the current economic climate is that it encourages people to use their brains whilst shopping. This is especially true when it comes to sale shopping. Previously seen as an excuse to buy thing you didn’t really want, sales are now (rightfully) seen as as the time to get the pieces you’ve had your eye on all season but didn’t have enough cash to get hold of.

Kolor have been flying under the radar for a few years now and we’re proud to be the first online site  to show you their Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection. Founded in 2004, Kolor is the work of designer Junichi Abe, who had previously worked for the likes of Comme Des Garcons before going independent. The brand is already popular in Japan, ranking at number one in a list of domestic designers by Japanese fashion industry newspaper, The Senken.

They avoid themed collections, aiming instead for a ’sophisticated comfort’. According to Kolor, perfect clothing is the mix of three elements: “the texture of materials, their unique cutting and designated specifications of sewing”.

While still a relatively small brand, they’ve got big plans ahead, with a flagship store opeing Omotesando area of Tokyo and a website launch both planned for late July. Stockists include the likes Browns and the Library in the UK, L’eclaireur in Paris and Opening Ceremony in USA.

Tom Ford had a big hand in making double breasted blazers look attractive thanks to his modern twist on it. Now plenty of designers are featuring the DB jacket in their collections – this Kolor jacket is a good example of a classic updated correctly. The navy jacket with gold buttons is a pretty standard old school piece but when the fit is updated accordingly, it can look modern. Get it from Browns.
