Selectism - diesel-foscarino-lamp-01

As you fine esteemed readers can tell, we’re getting into our home furnishings. It could be that we’re growing up. It could be that we’re getting boring. It could even be that we find lamps nicer to look than the umpteenth heritage brand drawing on their history to create something that looks like everything else. Whatever it is, we love lamp now. We’re not sure how well it will work if you’re favoured piece is a heavy knit cardigan but we’re sure the light will shine through items like shirts and so on. And why would you want to turn clothing into a makeshift lamp? If you have to ask you’ll never know. (Nest)

Selectism - Nuke-lamp-03

Continuing our ongoing pursuit of the cool search for nice stuff, we came across this lamp. It could be seen as a comment on the world as it is today, or a comment on how light is destroying us all. Or it could just be a nice lamp. (Yanko)

Selectism - anglepoise-lamp-01We’re all about segsy desk lamps here at SL. And beer. And Soda. And custard creams. We’re gonna showcase our love for the lamp in the post – especially the Anglepoise lamp, which we’ve showcased in giant form before. We’re saving our blowout feature on custard creams for a later date, it’s gonna change the world. (Another Store)

Jenny Back’s Lean Lamp

18 February 2011, 13.30 | Posted in Design | 1 comment »

Selectism - lean-lamp-01-curatedmag
Curated turns us onto this lamp. Yeah, we get turned onto lamps and shelves these days, what of it?

“Shown in Stockholm, Jenny Back’s Lean features a simple lampshade attached to a bronze handle. Supported by a coated triangular base, the brass creates great contrast with the black and white surface options of both base and shade. Designed for Swedish lighting manufacturers Örsjö Belysning. Back has also produced a smaller table lamp, which may have more application for most folks.”

Normann ‘Norm 69′ Lamp

Selectism - normann-norm-69-lampIn need of a (relatively) inexpensive lamp for Christmas for a design obsessed friend/partner? Here’s one that should be up your alley. Just make sure it’s not hanging too low, it looks sharp enough to cause accidents. (Normann)

Cho Hyung Suk’s B-Chain Lamp

selectism - Cho Hyung Suk's B-Chain Lamp

More bicycle themed design, this time in the form of a lamp and courtesy of Curated –

Being as I like bicycles as much as I like light, Cho Hyung Suk’s B-Chain Lamp gets a nod of approval. The chain based design allows for flexibility in the lamp’s structure – i.e. it is adjustable – as well as providing the aesthetic ques. The lamp is available in both red and white.

Head to Curated for more looks at the B-Chain Lamp.

If you read Selectism on a regular basis, you’ll know we’re all about the quirky design pieces. Give us a lamp that looks good and we’re happy – regardless of whether they work or not.  This design code lamp ticks all our boxes. It’ll add some quirk to any room, it comes in various colours and, most importantly, it’s pretty. It’s also at a reasonable price of 45 Euros. We couldn’t ask for more. (DesignCode)

Black+Blum Reading Light

23 July 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

selectism - black-blum-reading-light

As much as we love our functional designs, we do enjoy a quirky piece from time to time. Take this reading light for instance. Is it practical? no. Is it functional? not really. But it is fun. It’s perfect as an office talking point, especially if you’re a PR firm who has to wow us gormless bloggers and press folk. It’s also relatively cheap, coming in at £31.25. (Hidden Art)
