Pinch Design Studio

curated mag - Pinch Design Studio

Pinch Design Studio was founded in 2004 by the husband and wife team of Russel Pinch and Oona Bannon. Their furnishings are hand made to order, each piece designed to work in both the home and contract spaces. Pinch began his career after graduating from Ravensbourne College of Design, working for Sir Terrence Conran. In 1995 he became Conran’s Senior Product Designer. With Pinch Design Studio, Russel and Oona aim to deliver graceful and iconic designs with the hope of engaging in the space rather than dominating. (via Curated).

Yatzer has posted a full profile of Pinch. Some more examples from the studio after the jump.

Black+Blum Reading Light

selectism - black-blum-reading-light

As much as we love our functional designs, we do enjoy a quirky piece from time to time. Take this reading light for instance. Is it practical? no. Is it functional? not really. But it is fun. It’s perfect as an office talking point, especially if you’re a PR firm who has to wow us gormless bloggers and press folk. It’s also relatively cheap, coming in at £31.25. (Hidden Art)

‘Birdie Light’ lampshade

shuttlecock lampshade Birdie Light lampshade

Nylon Guys turns us onto this ‘Birdie light’ lampshade. Based on the shuttlecock, this is a rather bizarre choice for a lampshade. Badminton’s a long way from being a popular sport, but the result does work better than say, a basketball cut in half. Not sure if it will actually do the job very well though. Still, it’s only $50, so you can afford to take a chance on this one.

Objects great and small for both the home and public space from Eosmexico. Of note is the creative solution to gallery seating, which while not a hot topic is certainly a contested one.  Lighting from Eosmexico has some charm as well. (via Industrial Design Served).

Refined Sugar

selectism - refined sugar

Cinncinnati’s Refined Sugar lighting studio is the work of sculptor Matt Kotlarczyk. His work, including "Refined Cereal," playing of the sugar rich cereal of youth, caught more than a few eyes at ICFF. Matt’s use of lighting extends to other furniture forms, and after the jump you can check out the "Eat Me" dinning table.

Thanks to MoCo Loco for the information.

More images after the jump.
