Nigel Cabourn Limited Edition 2: “Scott’s Last Expedition”

NIgel Cabourn "Scott's Last Expedition" Limited Edition 2

Nigel Cabourn’s Limited Edition 1 collection, “The Ascent of Cabourn,” inspired by Sir Edmund Hillary, came in 2003. Yesterday, on the 100th anniversary of Captain’s Scott’s mission to the South Pole, Nigel Cabourn released Limited Edition 2 collection: Scott’s Last Expedition.

The “Scott’s Last Expedition” collection by Nigel Cabourn consists of 12 garments, each produced in an edition of 100; as well as 300 pieces of accessories is a six year project in the making. Working with the Scott Polar Research Institute, Cabourn reproduced garments as worn by R.F. Scott’s crew on the South Pole endeavor, in that detailed – almost obsessively correct – manner that he is known for.

A book, examining Scott’s Expedition and the garments honestly reproduced by Cabourn, is available. We’ll share looks inside at a later time. For now, examine these images from the collection as shown in Berlin.

Selectism - Oris Swiss Hunter Team Watch Limited Edition

Its been a while since the first Hawker Hunter Jet took flight – 1951 to be exact. After a few years, the jet made it’s way to prominence as part of the Swiss Air Force. As Watch Happening tells us, “Although the Hunter has since been retired in Switzerland it continues to fly thanks to the Swiss Hunter Team of the ‘Fliegermuseum Altenrhein’, a unique group of former Swiss Air Force pilots who were inspired to fly by the Hunter. The Oris Swiss Hunter Team Limited Edition reflects both the strength of the jet and the quality of its design.”

Oris comes through with a great PVD coated 46mm cased Swiss Hunter Team Limited Edition Watch – a nod to the jet and the pilots that flew them. 1958 units are being produced (which is also the year the jet came to Switzerland) and is finished in a solid display box.

freitag limited art edition bags 000 Freitag Limited Art Edition Bags

Switzerland’s Freitag, known for tranforming used trucking tarps into wallets and messenger bags, takes a break for picking through their dirty piles and re-focuses towards art exhibition banners. “In cooperation with the Tate Modern London, the Mori Art Museum Tokyo, Palazzo Grassi Venice and the Museum of Contemporary Art L.A., FREITAG presents a unique limited art edition. Swapping truck tarps for exhibition banners from these world-leading modern art galleries, FREITAG has produced one-off versions of its F52 Miami Vice shopping bag. Motifs from Picasso to Japanese contemporary art make these bags genuine rarities.”

If interested, be sure to visit the Freitag website often in August. Each week, they will launch a new collection of their art bags online. The problem is we at this time do not know the schedule for which exhibition bags will drop.

Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair Limited 50th Anniversary Edition

swan chair 50anniversary front Arne Jacobsen Swan Chair Limited 50th Anniversary Edition

50 years ago Arne Jacobsen’s Swan Chair hit the market. This month, Fritz Hansen has reintroduced the design in a special anniversary make-up. The upholstery is white semi-aniline leather. Each chair is numbered, out of 1,958, and sits on a pearl white base.

The chair was first designed for use in the lobby at the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. At core, it is an achievement of modern material, its curvilinear shape made possible by molded plastic. Like much of mid-century design, it’s initial use in public space doesn’t limit its potential in the private home.
