The tassel loafer is still a marmite shoe for those new to the shoe world. We’ve heard it being called effeminate, which we’d say is utterly ridiculous. We’re fans of the ‘man makes the clothes’ theory and therefore we don’t buy the belief that any one piece of clothing can be effeminate. On the bizarre off-chance that you haven’t checked ACL lately, he’s just gone to Italy to see how Gucci makes their loafers. As we have a weird fondness/hatred for Gucci loafers – thank you hip-hop lyrics for poisoning our minds – it’s interesting to see how the loafer was made. We wonder if there’s a cream – preferably of the custard variety – version they’ve been holding out on us?

We’ve showcased these Church’s loafers in our spring/summer 11 collection but here’s the first time we’ve seen them in stores. And no, we don’t count Church’s online store because we’ve not seen a site so un-user friendly. Leffot delivers some beautiful leather loafers for the boys looking to prep out ivy style. They’re made by Rancourt & Co Shoecrafters in Lewiston, Maine of all places (there is a special place in my heart for Lewiston). “These shoes are completely hand sewn on true moccasin construction so your feet are wrapped in cordovan top and bottom. Handsewn cordovan is extremely labor intensive. It takes the sewer approximately seventy percent more time to sew a cordovan shoe because there is simply no margin for error.”

More than a driving shoe, the Mr. Hare Fangio loafers are made from the finest of leathers. Choose from soft ivory suede or nappa leather for the upper. The sole gets a bit of a rubber treatment to keep it all in line.  They should walk as well as they drive in. Colette and Boutique1 in Dubai have them.

We like a spring loafer here, especially when it’s a pair of shoes Snoop would be proud of. Tomorrowland made a custom Alden loafer that look as Italian as the day is sprezzatura. You’ll have to get your proxy on for this one, but these are a prime candidate to be worn with some washed denim. (Houyhnhnm)

Jute based loafers with that soft espadrille fabric upper look to have some claim in Japan (and Spain) at the moment. We’re looking forward to them landing in the U.S.A. where thousands of sun-happy steppas will polish off their jigs to the sounds of everything from afro-beat to neu-rock. We agree that sometimes these pages get filled with more varietals of loafers and shoes than most, but when they’re good, they’re good.
