Not unlike The Blair Witch Project, for the Denim Jacket Project, Topman dropped six designers in the middle of the woods with one hand-held camera, some sewing machines, reams of denim and an evil spirit. Alright, so almost none of that is true, but what is legit is that Topman commissioned hot talent to design six cool jackets.

The word we are about to use is a touch silly, but denim jackets need to be a little sassy. That’s where the allure lies. You never quite know what a dude in a denim jacket is going to do. I mean, you can guess: for instance, the guy in Katie Eary’s light wash jacket with the shearling collar might punch you in the nose for not bumming him a cigarette, while the fellow in Oliver Spencer’s zippery piece might let you take his motorcycle around the block. Other designers include Mark McNairy, Shaun Sampson, and Lou Dalton. Available now online.

Back in time for a moment. Before we snuck a peek at happenings Backstage and reported goings on at her London Fashion Week show, we paid a visit to Designer Lou Dalton’s E1 studio. Still preparing for her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, she gave us a tour of where it all goes down and a look at her impressive selection of scissors.

Autumn/Winter 2012 from Lou Dalton. A military inspired collection full of cable knits, light denim, short suits, quilting, check shirts, Harris Tweed  and as always with Lou Dalton, elements of workwear. The collection story is one of love during wartime and country garms with an added kick from Dr Martens boots.

“The Protagonist is a conscripted officer who finds himself forced to adapt to rural civilian life having absconded from his post when caught up in a whirlwind romance with a local land girl”. More from Lou later in our backstage coverage.

The folks at Crane TV invite us into the world of British designer Lou Dalton. We’ve been fans of Lou’s work for quite some time now so we’re more than happy to hear the lady chat influences, her beginnings in the industry and the man she imagines when putting pencil to paper.

Stuff your Supreme store openings, today’s menswear day! And everyone knows streetwear is just fashion for the insecure anyway. One of our standouts from today is Lou Dalton, who made a collection stuffed full of great, wearable coats, blazers and some Swarovski crystal covered t-shirts that only Ray J could afford. You know he’s got seven Rolls Royces right?

Lou Dalton kicks off Spring 2012. The new collection pulls inspiration from two “contrasting” themes: the “the harshness and desperation of the 1984 Miners’ Strike, and Matthew Bourne’s menacing male ensemble in Swan Lake. Yet both are symbolic struggles, whether it be the demise of the National Union of Miners, or the rise of the swan.” Mixed themes keep the collection fresh.

We’re gonna get all music snob and say we’ve been into wearing Lou Dalton since before the likes of Liberty got on board. But we’re going to defy that stereotype and announce that we still like the stuff, but we will be pulling out older pieces – we’re not sure you can call it ‘Vintage Lou’ yet – and walking around newcomers with a knowing smirk. We’re not so crazy about wearing grey tees in hot weather (sweat patches love grey shirts) but we do like this one. Just be sure to, as the kids say, go hard on the deodorant when you wear this.
