We skip forward on the Louis Vuitton Les Rendez-Vous du Temps series to episode 6. A hypnotic little film that looks at the delicate processes around the balance spring, Le Spiral, used in their super luxury watchmaking. Steady hand and sharp eye a must, this is craftsmanship on another scale.

Louis Vuitton trunks have been carrying the possessions of classy globetrotters for some time. While they’re more nostagia pieces nowadays, their hefty frame unappealing to most modern travellers, they still draw attention for their classic lines and sticker friendly surfaces. Louis Vuitton watch-wear pushes two editions for the 2012 America’s Cup. The Tambour Regate Automatic and Quartz timepieces come in editions of 1851 and 750 units respectively. Each of the special editions features a stainless black PVD and rubber case sitting at around 44mm in size. Water resistant to 100 meters, the choice between the two comes down to your choice in movement: the quartz movement includes both countdown and alarm while the automatic ups the ante with a flyback complication and 42 hours of power reserve. The color hits look great on these from Louis Vuitton.

A pair of new shoes can make you feel like a whole new man, so imagine how a pair of new made-to-order shoes would make you feel? Now imagine those shoes were made just for your feet by Louis Vuitton. Now imagine a 30-foot unicorn standing high above you, shooting a rainbow of gummy bears out of each nostril. Now go back to the shoes.

Made To Order is indeed a new service from Louis Vuitton that allows you to create your own personal pair of shoes. “You choose the shape, the material, the finish, everything to invent the shoe that corresponds precisely to your tastes and desires,” the brand informs. “Three thousand possible combinations for the ultimate in luxury.” The shoes are hand-crafted in a Venetian workshop—”the cradle of this savoir-faire since the 13th century”—and are probably worth more than you’ll pay for them.

We give love to Louis Vuitton for their latest film short. “A Notch on Louis Vuitton’s Belt” plays out like the opening credit work of Saul Bass. Much respect to Louis Vuitton in going the full on undercover spy thriller route while putting focus on their belt line. I for one will remember them. Jo Ratcliffe animated the short.

Sometimes we forget that Louis Vuitton makes more than just super ubiquitous bags, so this Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook is a nice reminder of that. Of course, ever since Kim Jones landed at the label, it’s been easier to remember and his debut collection is sturdy to behold.

The designer took inspiration from his childhood in South Africa, and it shows, as the collection is a studious blend of cosmopolitan cleanliness and safari breeze (can not believe we just typed that). Try as we might we are having trouble getting behind the sandals, however. Sandals being a tough-sell in general and these looking like simplified Tevas.

There is a long series of suiting that accompanies the pre-Autumn Winter collection from Louis Vuitton. We did not pick up on those looks for this story. Everything else is here, but truthfully, those suits deserve another look at a later date. What we have here is a ready to wear collection tailored for the individual who wants a leg up on the end of the year “chiller” months with the option to prepare for an early frost. While not all the looks work for us, you are the individual who should really be making that choice. Trends aside, fashion is supposed to be personal and Louis Vuitton can help.
