Mackintosh for Epaulet – Dowanhill Raincoat Navy

Mackintosh epaulet 01 Mackintosh for Epaulet Dowanhill Raincoat Navy

Mackintosh is one of those ‘traditional’ British labels that fell out of favour, found love in Japan and arrived back in the United Kingdom with a style stamp of approval and a new air of cool. Funny how these things happen. We’re not quite sure why the Scottish brand would ever suffer from a lack of interest. These guys laid down the template for unfussy rainwear; technical fabric from way back and those clean, clean lines seem to be something that defy fashion.

We live in a fickle world though and apologies should be offered to the 189 year old company for ever turning our backs on them. Epaulet, a store/label doing great things at the moment, have seen the light. This navy Mackintosh Dowanhill raincoat has been given a respectful makeover with a slimmer cut and, what the store describes as ‘a rakish interior liner’. This coat is something special. Find it at Epaulet.

Junya Watanabe, Mackintosh Fireman Jacket

junya mackintosh1 Junya Watanabe, Mackintosh Fireman Jacket

We rarely dream about collaborations anymore. Most of the ones we hoped would happen have done just that. The rest have been executed with such varying degrees of success that we’ve become a little gunshy. No such fears when we first heard the words ‘Junya’ and ‘Mackintosh’ though. If the coming together of two brands could ever be a safe bet it was this pair. We continue our admiration with this fireman inspired raincoat. Sealed and waterproof, heavy buckles, corduroy collar, tartan lining another fine product from this perfect partnership. Find this Junya Watanabe x Mackintosh at Goodhood.

Mackintosh Tartan Clisham Jacket

12 October 2011, 11.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Mackintosh Tartan Clisham Jacket

Something special from the folks at Mackintosh. This blackwatch tartan Clisham jacket is a nice alternative to the block colour parka. Charles Macintosh invented his unique waterproof fabric back in 1823 and the company has been keeping its customers dry ever since. This model, constructed of ‘rubberised wool’, features two large hip pockets and two slanted hand warmer pockets, the detachable hood transforms this into something a bit smarter and the removable quilted lining makes this a bit more versatile than your average anorak. Made in Scotland, find it at CHCM.

Pitti | Mackintosh Spring/Summer 2012

15 June 2011, 18.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - mackintosh-spring-2012-02

We’re reporting LIVE from Pitti Uomo! Well, not really live but on the same day, so that’s good enough. While there’s more unstructured blazers than you can shake a street style photographer at, we thought we’d focus on the good ol’ raincoat before we delve into all that. If you like your coats you know all about Mackintosh – and if you don’t the Mackintosh has long become a household name. This collection sees several new colourways (including the one you see above) and a new coat with a detachable cape. Enough yammering, take a leap and see for yourselves.

Selectism - mackintosh-junya-watanabe-coat-01

Bump up the world, watch my flow, here we go. Return of the Mack(intosh) collaboration. That wasn’t the best remix in the world, but we feel it accurately described our feelings towards this Junya/Mackintosh collab. This coat is perfect if you (a) are not a fan of longer coats (b) still like a beige coat and (c) have a few spare coins in your pocket. (Firmament)

Converse for Mackintosh Newfield Jacket

Selectism - converse-for-mackintosh-newfield-jacket-01

Here’s the second half of the Converse/Mackintosh meeting of the minds. We’re not exactly sure Converse have done to change this jacket (looks the same as all the other Macks to our eyes) but it’s titled as a collab so we’re not gonna question how much collab-ing actually went on. Either way, it’s a nice jacket. (End)

Selectism - mackintosh-store-01

It’s been a long time coming – a very long time taking the fact that they launched in1823 – but Mackintosh have just opened their first standalone store. It’s based in London (104 Mount street to be exact) and showcases some of the history of the brand alongside newer collections like their Kitsune collab. If you’re in town, it’s well worth a visit.
