Monocle April 2011 Fashion Spread | On The Button

As usual Monocle hits it right on the nail with their latest fashion spread in their April 2011 issue. The perfect combination of classic Italian chic is combined with Japanese attention to detail. From Ferragamo, Bottega Veneta, to Kolor, White Mountaineering and visvim, pretty much all our favorite labels are represented. Not only are they in there, but they are combined into perfect Spring outfits, making the models look like they know whats up, without being totally overdressed or attention seeking. Subtle luxury one might be able to call it.

Check out the full spread after the jump.

Beckham takes the cover of issue 13 of Fantastic Man. In fact, they’re calling him the “most famous man in the world.” Could be true. He’s at least one of the world’s best known footballers. In their words: “Perhaps the most famous gentleman in the world, Mr. BECKHAM is freshly coiffed care of ALAIN PICHON, and photographed at a pie and mash shop in his native London by ALASDAIR McLELLAN. Other notable profiles include: the new director of the TATE MODERN, CHRIS DERCON, who discusses the fantastic prospects for the museum’s upcoming HERZOG & DE MEURON extension; owner of THE INDEPENDENT newspaper, the media oligarch Mr. EVGENY LEBEDEV.” Find it on newsstands soon. Steven Heller on Prison Stripes

selectism - Steven Heller on Prison Stripes

There is some history we don’t want surfacing as a fashion trend. (We’re looking at you, Neighborhood). That said, Steven Heller’s “Stripes Strip Humanity” from imprint is terrific and our tip for read of the day. He begins, “Prison uniforms are graphically designed so an inmate can be immediately recognized as such. Originally a horizontal white and black ‘bee-striped’ uniform was the most popular (and stereotypical) prison garb in the U.S.. Striped prison uniforms commonly used in the 19th and twentieth centuries were abolished in the United States during the mid century because ‘their continued use as a badge of shame was considered undesirable.’”

The rest, complimented by some fantastic photographs, can be read here.

Selectism - journal-de-nimes-01

Tenue De Nimes have just dropped their latest issue of Journal de Nimes. This time they’re focusing on dutch products – which makes sense, them being based in the Netherlands – and, from what we’ve seen, it looks just as good as the last one.

Like always, the digital version is available to read here and if you’re in town you can pick up an issue from the store.

Spreads from the magazine are after the leap.

Men’s File Magazine Issue 3

Selectism - Men's File Magazine Issue 3

We first looked at England’s Men’s File Magazine issue one and two not to long ago. It is one of the few men’s magazines which does a great job delivering content and “images” primarily for the blue collar workers amongst us, with very clear extensions into the modern fashion trends (truthfully, it works for all guys). Men’s File is not into issue three with a cover story on “Tweed & Navy.” Find the full issue online or through select shops.
