After our look at forthcoming Maharishi A/W 2012 collection via our Pitti coverage, we return to more recent collections with Spring Summer 2012. Of course, camo is their mainstay and while future collections look to be expanding beyond their trademark print, it’s still what they do best. These pieces; parka, bomber, scarf, shorts and tote are made from recycled WW2 parachute cloth.

The same fabric had actually been used as part of an exhibition of artist Hardy Blechman’s work shown at London’s Riflemaker gallery. Garments with a few stories to tell. Find it online.

Maharishi brings back their blues for Autumn/Winter 2012, in a collection that is sure to get people talking again about the U.K. based maker who does mil-spec inspirational clothing better than most. For those that have passed on Maharishi in recent season, we strongly urge you take a fresh look (and it goes beyond their camo).

In some regards, the collection may be seen as over-engineered, with garments that serve a multitude of functions including a pull-over weather proof coat that converts into a bag when zipped (photos do not do it justice), as well as bombers that go well beyond their design specs. But that is what will keep Maharishi garments around for as long as the classics that inspire them. This stuff is built for the end of the world. Think we’re excited? Along the way blazers have got rather complicated. We’re not complaining, it’s just sometimes all those details and twists and reinterpretations have us wishing for simpler times. This relatively plain jacket from Maharishi is right up our street. Black, no embellishments, it’s only real standout feature are the collar poppers which allow you to get that refined Nehru look, if that’s what you’re after. (Maharishi)

Maharishi offer us this casual camo blazer in the spirit of peace and harmony. Don’t be fooled by the military print, these guys want us to know that war just isn’t their thing. The time has come to claim camo back from the troublemakers and return it to its gentler roots in nature. A slim cut jacket with a smart feel, it features two snap closure pockets on its cotton twill body and will keep you safely hidden on those walks in the forest.

Need a brolly? Of course you do. We’ve all been caught out by random downpours lately – especially all those times when we’ve been brave enough to leave the house without a light raincoat. It’s a rare occasion we get to use the word apocalypse when talking about a tee. In fact, we get to use the word apocalypse so rarely that we’re tempted to start saying apocalypse too much in this post. This apocalypse desert tee is probably a play on apocalypse now, which was a great film that used the word apocalypse. On a sidenote, it’s on sale and it’s organic cotton. And it’s apocalyptic*. A bit more from Maharishi from the coming Spring/Summer 2012 collection. They worked with the eco company, Po-zu, on two models: a jungle “boot” and sandals, both of which feature biodegradable soles. Bascially, you can wear them until they’re done, bury them in the dirt, and they’ll break down in a very Earth friendly manner. All the Maharishi mili-inspiration remains…

Thought we were done, eh? A few more previews from Pitti to go. Here’s a few preview looks from the Maharishi Spring/Summer 2012 collection. For those not familiar with the iconic military inspired wears of Maharishi, expect highly detailed garments where aspect of placement is considered. Remnant Parachute is used in their light bomber jackets. Salvage canvas is used in developing a series of garments which include the modified field jacket and nurses cloak (as seen in our gallery).

Maharishi comes through with their distinct take on Autumn 2011 with a modern mix of “Special Forces” and tech inspired fashion in black and charcoal colors. Under the name, ‘Into The Light : Survival 2012,’ Maharishi brings “ high tech webbing and other technical and utilitarian details reinterpreted for the 2012 Survival Forces…” The details speak for themselves: Swiss riri waterproof zips, “densely woven naturally waterproof organic cotton ETA, Schoeller cloth with anti-abrasion Kevlar fibres..” it would seem that no shortcuts were taken in production.
