Muse Magazine Issue 29 – Home Boy – Editorial

Muse Homeboy 01 Muse Magazine Issue 29 Home Boy Editorial

It’s Sunday. I’m on my way home for a long overdue roast dinner. I can’t decide what to wear. My folks haven’t seen me since I moved to the city. In the time I’ve been away I’ve become fancy, elegant, a real snappy dresser. I own a Hermes belt. It’s my favourite. I hope it’s lamb, mum always overcooks pork and with lamb you get the option of mint jelly or mint sauce. Hope dad doesn’t ask too many questions about what I’ve been up. Hopefully my outfits will reassure him that I’m moving up in the world. Look at my belt. I’m going places.

swim trunk roundup lead Buyers Guide | 10 Pairs of Wet Shorts Swim Trunks
Swim trunks/briefs/shorts force you to make a statement about yourself. After all, this is the closest you can get to nakedness in public, and there are swimsuits that can fit just about any level of modesty—or lack thereof. Some prefer the coverage and comfort afforded by a nice pair of board shorts, others take swim season as an opportunity to show the world how good they (think they) look in their underwear. Below, we have curated a selection of 10 bottoms that are fit to suit just about every whim or desire.

“Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs” Book from Rizzoli – A Look Inside

22 March 2012, 20.26 | Posted in Books & Magazines, Fashion | No comments »

marcjacobs louis vuitton rizzoli book 01 Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs Book from Rizzoli A Look Inside

Rizzoli is set to publish this new book that highlights and examines the work and influence of Marc Jacobs on the Louis Vuitton house. Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs: In Association with the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Paris Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs Book from Rizzoli A Look Inside examines Vuittons long history from 1854 to the present. Never before seen examples of Vuitton’s work and craftsmanship are reviewed in each chapter.

The latter half of the book Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs Book from Rizzoli A Look Inside looks at Marc Jacob’s roles as Vuitton’s creative director – a position he has held since 1997. Jacobs took the “house into a new era with a series of collaborations with artists and designers—such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Stephen Sprouse—as well as designing a line of highly successful and desired clothing for the company.” The 308 page Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs book arrives April 24. Available from Amazon Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs Book from Rizzoli A Look Inside.

Marc Jacobs Metal Heel Oxford Shoe

marc jacobs metal heel oxford shoes 4 Marc Jacobs Metal Heel Oxford Shoe

Bear with us on this one. We know that for many of you, slapping a shiny gold tone metal plate onto a perfectly good pair of Marc Jacobs oxford shoes is the kind of shoe sacrilege that makes you want to throw your George Cleverleys at the screen. In many ways it is wrong. The strongest case being that yes, these are indeed a perfectly good pair of oxfords. In fact, they are a great pair, sitting on the right side of slim and substantial whilst keeping detail (heel aside) to a minimum.

The fact is though, sometimes you feel like putting snobbery aside. We stare at endless pairs of shoes, good, bad and ugly, in order to bring you the latest. Whilst our hearts skip a little when we see those bespoke classics, in all their rigid, conformist beauty – we can’t help but fall for the sheer defiance and bloody mindedness of this slightly silly shoe.

Marc Jacobs Quilted Bomber Jacket

01 December 2011, 15.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Marcjacobs quilt jacket 01 Marc Jacobs Quilted Bomber Jacket

An understated piece of quilted outerwear from Marc Jacobs. This one is reminiscent of those classic Eddie Bauer ‘Sunset’ label jackets without the ‘blizzard proof’ guarantee. A military feel with the grey/green tone, it features elasticated cuffs and collar, fly front, press studs and zipper. The fit is on the slim side, a good way to go with anything padded to avoid any Kris Kross associations.

Part of the Spring 2012 collection, this jacket isn’t one for arctic conditions so layering is advised. Find it at Oki ni.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2012 Runway

WWD delivers these look at the ready-to-wear collection from Marc by Marc Jacobs for Spring/Summer 2012. As they mention, “For his male counterpart, Jacobs struck a similarly purist note with a more sophisticated, grown-up aesthetic. Looks included slim-fit tailoring in fiery hues like red and green, utilitarian parkas and a looser Warwick plaid overcoat.” Casual, again.

Marc Jacobs Metallic Closure Belt

Marc Jacobs Metallic Closure Belt

Need a belt? Consider this metallic closure belt from the Marc Jacobs pre-fall collection. Check the single inlay leather detail on the body of the belt that works to secure or “close” the belt via the metal hook. No punchouts on this one. Tuck in that shirt to show it off. The metal closure is a unique look as well. Thecorner.com has them.

NYT: “The Survivor” – Marc Jacobs

NYT: "The Survivor" - Marc Jacobs

Section E of the The New York Times tomorrow (June 2) features a story on the history and career of Marc Jacobs. The title “The Survivor” seems to lay it out for the reader. The following excerpt is strong:

“You can live with the love, you can live with the hate,” Mr. Jacobs said the other day at his office in SoHo. He had placed his arms squarely on a wooden conference table so nondescript it might have been salvaged from a high school’s teacher’s lounge. “We’ve been bankrupt, we been fired,” he said. “We didn’t hang up our hat.”

Read “The Survivor” online or in tomorrow’s edition of The New York Times.
