Mark McNairy for Opening Ceremony Tokyo Tote Bag

mcnairy opening ceremony tokyo 2 Mark McNairy for Opening Ceremony Tokyo Tote Bag

McNairy works his magic on this “Concrete Jungle” tote bag exclusive to Opening Ceremony’s Tokyo store. Not only is “concrete jungle” a defining term for NYC but also the name of one of the longest running jungle/drum and bass nights in the city (for the headz). For those who need to get their hands on this special edition, bug McNairy on Twitter or call OC and ask for a special order – we’re not sure if either suggestion will work, but fuck, why not try.

Yes, we took these with these photos with an iPhone. So what?

A look at the reverse on the following page.

Topman – Denim Jacket Project

06 April 2012, 20.00 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

topman denim jacket project 1 Topman Denim Jacket Project
Not unlike The Blair Witch Project, for the Denim Jacket Project, Topman dropped six designers in the middle of the woods with one hand-held camera, some sewing machines, reams of denim and an evil spirit. Alright, so almost none of that is true, but what is legit is that Topman commissioned hot talent to design six cool jackets.

The word we are about to use is a touch silly, but denim jackets need to be a little sassy. That’s where the allure lies. You never quite know what a dude in a denim jacket is going to do. I mean, you can guess: for instance, the guy in Katie Eary’s light wash jacket with the shearling collar might punch you in the nose for not bumming him a cigarette, while the fellow in Oliver Spencer’s zippery piece might let you take his motorcycle around the block. Other designers include Mark McNairy, Shaun Sampson, and Lou Dalton. Available now online.

gq best menswear designer 2012 01 GQs Best New Menswear Designers 2012: McNairy, Johan Lindeberg, Saturdays...

It is that time again. GQ has just announced their “Best New Menswear Designers in America” with a list of familiar names getting a nod: Mark McNairy, Johan Lindeberg (BLK DNM), Todd Synder, Ovadia & Sons, Saturdays, and Ian Velardi. As they mention in the release: “This year’s group includes six highly regarded designers that were selected by GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson and creative director Jim Moore, along with the fashion editors of the magazine.”

Each designer will also work on a limited edition collection for GAP, which in itself is a big coup for the apparel retailer. Last year’s sponsor was Dockers. The selection of “Best New Menswear Designers in America” will also be highlighted in the April 2012 issue of GQ.

Mark McNairy New Amsterdam Hats for Autumn/Winter 2012

McNairy delivers a collection of headwear for Autumn 2012 – coming out of his New Amsterdam collection. We see some New Era’s in there against fedoras, stovepipe’s and more – all done with that McNairy steez that blends color against neutral. Worth a look for those in the hat market later in the year.

Keds, Mark McNairy Sneakers Autumn/Winter 2012 – Final Chapter

mark mcnairy keds triumph sneaker fw2012 1 Keds, Mark McNairy Sneakers Autumn/Winter 2012 Final Chapter

This is it, folks. The Mark McNairy / KEDS collaborative collections are bringing closure this Autumn 2012 with this final installment featuring the KEDS Triumph sneaker. A staple as far back as the late 1920’s, the KED Triumph is they say on the comments: “clean.” A solid array of colors make up the collection which includes an off white gem of a Triumph sneaker that will very likely end up on the feet of this writer later in the year.

Most important is that the Triumph is the silhouette that brought the MM/KEDS alliance together. As we have been told, the sneaker holds a special place in McNairy’s world. Seen at PROJECT Las Vegas.

Mark McNairy New Amsterdam for Men Fall/Winter 2012 -Preview

GQ gets a strong first look at the forthcoming Autumn/Winter 2012 collection from the McNairy mafia. Iranian-American, Hooman Majd, pulls modeling duties on garments that mix one of my favorite McNairy sigs- camo – with an openess to try anything. The collection is the usual wake-up array of prints that resist the market’s pushes. The cow patch on the trousers, my friend…. we dare you to get in there.

Mark McNairy for Standard (Atlanta) – Brogue Boots

07 February 2012, 23.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

MXS 1 Mark McNairy for Standard (Atlanta) Brogue Boots
Brogue boots have been practically growing on trees the past few months. This is less a complaint than an observation, and this latest ornamental oddity comes from a tête-a-tête between debonair designer Mark McNairy and Atlanta boutique, Standard.

And an odd trio it is, though in the stop-and-take-a-loving-longer-look way. Two of them walk on leather soles—one of them tan grain leather with red wool flannel and the other brown grain with hunter green—and the third comes in black grain with navy cloth and moves under you on a durable pillow of white Vibram Cristy.

This latter option might be our favorite, thanks to the contrast between the dark leather and the gleaming sole and the more understated upper of black and dark blue. The red and green offerings are tight, no doubt, but could verge on being costume-y. Still, big ups to McNairy and Standard for making something that’s become commonplace look not so common at all.
