Selectism - Mark McNairy for Weejuns Shoes for Spring 2011

Seen before on our brother site, the McNairy for Bass Weejun collection takes the MM aesthetic and applies “premium” leathers it to classic silhouettes. Our favorite would be the suede varieties seen above applied to the “decker.”

You couldn’t make up a more blogtastic collaboration than this one. It’s basically the blog version of the Expendables (except no one’s on steroids – we think). So what about the boots themselves? Well, we like them. The use of an slightly different shade on the leather sole is a nice touch and using both grain and calf leather gives it a little edge. The height of the boot will be a bit shocking to anyone not used to boots that high, but aside from that it’s a great, timeless boot (and not that new school, not so timeless kind of timeless either). selectism - (capsule) NY | Mark McNairy New Amsterdam Sweats

Mark McNairy’s glorious sweats have been criminally ignored by bloggers and civilians for too long. A V-Neck sweatshirt paired with well cut trousers make for an elegant casual outfit. It wouldn’t be out of the question to add an oxford shirt to the look. A gold necklace would also work (if not be a little better).

View the sweatshirt and trouser in full glory – though photographs by Jacob Breinholt – after the jump.

And the list of blogger-ternt-retailers keep growing. Former guest blogger Start With Typewriters teamed up with the folks behind Sartorially Inclined and Getting Beat Like You Stole Something to create a new shop entitled Run Of The Mill. They’ve got some exclusive collabo’s in the pipeline, including these green suede longings created by Mark McNairy. We’re not usually that into longings but we’re big fans of these – the crepe sole is a nice touch, as are those laces. There’s no shortage of McNairy collabs out there, but this is definitely one of our favourites. (Run of The Mill)

McNairy Takes over for Suzuki at Woolrich Woolen Mills

Selectism - Mark McNairy Takes over for Suzuki at Woolrich Woolen Mills

Mark McNairy is taking the creative reigns over at Woolrich Woolen Mills. Mr. McNairy, who is best known for his work at J. Press, and of course his own New Amsterdam collection, replaces Daiki Suzuki as creative director for the brand. His personal take on the line looks to pull from some WWM’s 50’s and 60’s sportwear collections.

“It’s not going to be red-and-black buffalo check — that I can tell you,” McNairy said. “I think I’ll end up adding a military aspect and some Ivy League. In the late Fifties and early Sixties, Woolrich had a sportswear collection that wasn’t necessarily geared for the outdoors and was more about the piece goods like Ivy League styles, duffle coats and things like that. It’s going to be a mixture of the things I love.”

Here at Selectism, we’re very excited to see what Mr. McNairy has in store for the Woolrich Woolen Mills collection. Congratulations.

Tres Bien | Interview with Mark McNairy

selectism - mark-mcnairy-interview

Très Bien recently added an editorial section to their site and their first interview was with Mr McNairy. An in-depth read, they talk about his influences, collaborations and why his shoes are made in England. When it comes to the latter topic, he gives an interesting answer:

‘There are almost no factories in the U.S. to make those shoes. The few that exist aren’t really interested. My whole thing has always been modern, traditional, Anglo-American sportswear. The button down shirt originated in the UK. The traditional dress shoe industry, Savile Row–the whole thing grew out of the UK.’

Mark McNairy for Tres Bien Country Brogue Shoes

Selectism - Mark McNairy for Tres Bien Country Brogue Shoes

McNairy loves the collaborative works. And why not? Not only does it give his line the opportunity to extend its reach but also allow a few select partners to get some exclusives of their own. Take these Country Brogues for Scandinavia’s Tres Bien. “We wanted a classic English brogue only we wanted it in suede and we also wanted to give it a more sporty look. A classic shoe to match with your technical parka. Therefore we added the white, light weight foam sole. Goodyear welted of course.”

Selectism - Vegas | Mark McNairy US Navy Digital Camo Pants

Captured in Vegas, this smart pair of  U.S. Navy digital camouflage 8-pocket cargo pants from famed designer, Mr. Mark McNairy. Another great complement to a growing collection of rather unique American prep. This notion follows suit in a set of superb nylon taffeta coaches jackets (a form which is, quite possibly, America’s greatest coat). McNairy’s sweatpants and v-neck sweatshirt are also absolutely superb.
