The “Burning Bright” t-shirt collection from Martyn Bal take a positive approach to the troubled “economies” of the world. The focus looks to be on positive energy. That’s what fashion brings. “Despite all this [bad economy], Martyn Bal has a positive outlook and uses the hand as an immortal romantic symbol to put a mystical emphasis on energy free from external restrictions, and to reflect and realise the intrinsic beauty of nature and man against control, power and defeat.”

With his recent appointment as Design Director for Gianni Versace Menswear (he just completed his first collection at the company), it’s fair to say that Martyn Bal has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. The collection’s strength has always been their outerwear and, as you can see from the pictures above, that’s set to continue with this collection. The press release states that the campaign images showcase ‘the duality of the Martyn Bal man’ – they also show any girlfriends that this collection is the perfect pretend gift for your other half.

Hot on the heels of their Spring/Summer 2010 looks come the Autumn/Winter 2010 Paris presentation from Martyn Bal. The collection remains in the black white grey territory of the former but replaced the lightweight fabrics with heavier textiles for the cold season.

Like most men, Martyn Bal is a prefers the winter months over a sweaty summer. This is why he’s made his new SS10 collection short and sweet – a capsule collection as opposed to a mammoth range. The collection focuses on lightweight fabrics and draping, featuring leather jackets, shirts with unique detailing and high waisted trousers (think classic movies, not Simon Cowell).

Shot by Richard Stow at Knebworth house, Musician Erik Hassle takes over the modelling reins this season. We’ve not heard of the fellow, but Bal has and said that “He has the steely, tattooed veneer of an east London boy, but underneath, as you’ll hear on record, is an emotional soul.” Which is exactly what we thought when we saw the pictures.

As readers may have noticed, we’re fans of Martyn Bal here. We’ve featured his collections, interviewed him and now we can show you his AW09 footwear collection. Like Martyn Bal’s mainline collection, the focus is on classic shapes with a well designed quirk to set it apart. Aside from the footwear featured above, our favourite pair are a timberland-esque fringed boot with a pointy toe, which sounds terrible but look amazing.

The Martyn Bal Man Collection for Spring/Summer 2009 is one worth taking a moment to review. Mr. Bal takes his work experience from Dior Homme, Burberry Prorsum and his work with Dirk Bikkembergs to develop a collection offering  ready to wear looks mixed with some not so. His bio says it best, “From exquisite tailoring, perfectly constructed outerwear and an equally intuitive and studied approach to fashion, MARTYN BAL exudes a profound sense of energy intimately connected to music, contemporary art and gender theories.” (via fashonisto)
