Alexander Wang Announces Menswear Collection

Style comes through with an exclusive look at the forthcoming Alexander Wang men’s collection. “Alexander Wang is on a roll. The designer not only opened his first-ever flagship and revamped his entire online presence, while designing two labels, Alexander Wang and T, and finding time to hit his fair share of parties. For Fall, he’s introducing men’s ready-to-wear, too.” The collection is a small one. Look for it at Barneys New York, Dover Street Market, and Colette for starters.

Porter for Mizuno Golf Bag

Porter for Mizuno Golf Bag

OK, ok. I love you Porter. While I may not golf (gimme a bike or squash racquet), many of our readers do and they’ll very much appreciate this brand extension by Porter for Mizuno. The bag features an aluminum frame and the very recognizable Porter look. The descrip. mentions that it borrows from the Yoshida collection as well. Very true. Zozo Japan has it – proxy time  or a long Tokyo holiday is in order.

Selectism - Frieze Opening Party

NOWNESS explores the attendees of the Frieze opening party this week. “Bentleys bumper to bumper on Marylebone Road, inboxes overflowing with invitations to private views, and galleries stockpiling champagne—yes, the madness of the Frieze Art Fair has taken over London. Gallerists, collectors, artists and celebrities vied for one of the coveted VIP preview passes that granted access to the tents in Regent’s Park on Wednesday, before the official opening yesterday.” See more at NOWNESS

Profile on NYC’s Left Field

Selectism - Profile on NYC's Left Field

This is a strong read about one of America’s more interesting working man companies, founded in the last ten years. CWAC’s assessment is pretty on point: ‘Long before L.L.Bean went Signature, or Lands End went Canvas, or J.Crew went Red Wing, there was Left Field NYC. Founded by Christian McCann, the Brooklyn-based label has been churning out rugged, American-made goods since chambray was still putting the blue in blue collar. “We have been in business for over 10 years,” explains McCann, “and have always strived to make quality, made in America clothing at a fair price.’”

01. Puma salutes the ‘after hours athlete’ (above)

“Following a summer of slick and snazzy sports ads celebrating athleticism in various forms (though mostly football), Puma has released this spot championing the ‘after hours athlete’, fuelled on beer and kebabs rather than Lucozade and half-time oranges… The ad is created by Droga5 ad agency in New York, and directed by Ringan Ledwidge.” (CR).

02. ‘Fish Forms: Lamps By Frank Gehry’ Opens Aug. 29 At Jewish Museum

“The Jewish Museum will present a selection of colorful, luminous lamps designed by internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry in “Fish Forms: Lamps by Frank Gehry,” on view from August 29 through October 31. This exhibition also explores the significance of fish imagery in Gehry’s work. The lamps will be displayed in near darkness to create a gallery of glowing sculptural fish lit from within.” (Bee).

03.  Nicolas Anelka laughs at ‘nonsense’ 18-match French ban

“Nicolas Anelka says he is “laughing” after being banned for 18 games by the French Football Federation (FFF) over his conduct at this summer’s World Cup.” (BBC).

04. Kings Of Leon turned down ‘Glee’ and ‘Ugly Betty’ slots

“Kings Of Leon have revealed they turned down having their music used in the TV show Glee, as well as a cameo in Ugly Betty.” (NME).

Selectism - Woolrich Flat Cap with Baseball Cap Brim

Woolrich reps were rocking this flat cap with an extended brim. The kicker being the baseball brim holding down the bill. While I may not be able to work with the extended bill, most of you will – golfers and non players. Should be available for Spring 2011 if not sooner.

A good crop of iPad slips are showing up around the web (we covered a few recently). The Kenton Sorenson leather holster is another fine example that complements iPad. “Presenting the Kenton Sorenson iPad Portfolio. Wisconsin native Kenton Sorenson cuts and sews each natural leather piece by hand in his workshop. Each iPad Portfolio is oiled and conditioned with beeswax and finished with a heavy linen thread side stitch.” Context serves them up.

First Look | J. Panther Luggage Co.

16 August 2010, 18.30 | Posted in Accessories | 1 comment »

Selectism - J. Panther Luggage Co.

Here’s an exclusive first look at J. Panther Luggage Co., a line of bags combining deft functionality with artisanal manufacture in some of the US’s oldest factories. Lamenting that artisan-made luggage too often plays it safe by sticking to classic form, designer Johnny Diamandis has developed a small collection that draws upon what he calls the ‘golden era’ of pre-1960s American manufacture, yet takes its design cues from more modern modes of living. We’re particularly taken by the ‘Ruc-Tote’, a unique combined ruck and tote bag that was born out of the designer’s frustration at not being able to carry a tote when cycling the streets of adoptive home NY…
