We take a exclusive first look at the complete Michael Bastian x Randolph Engineering eyewear collection for 2012, previewed in the video below not too long ago. The eyewear collection features both sunglasses and eyeglasses with clip-on sunglasses – most inspired by Randolph’s back catalog of vintage frames.

Metal aviators are what Randolph is known for and Mr. Bastian’s selections from their archives are strong. As with all metal Randolph frames, they are all made locally in Randolph, MA – the city which the eyemaker takes its name.

Of particular note, are four acetate frames – the first acetate frames from Randolph since the 1970’s – produced in Italy with Mazzuchelli acetate. Clip-on sunglasses are available for select Bastian x Randolph acetates. The collection delivers this May through better Bastian retailers.

For their Spring 2012 campaign, Gant by Michael Bastian took a trip to Hawaii, purportedly taking inspiration from the Brady Bunch episode set in the Aloha State. These sculpted adults seem a lot closer to sipping rum and boning that tangling braces over soda pops, so we’re not seeing much allegiance there, but the looks certainly speak to a beachy good time.

Bastian explains it this way: “This collection is all about Hawaii, but a very particular vision of the islands. I have never been to Hawaii myself, so it became clear that my vision of Hawaii came from watching The Brady Bunch as a kid. So the campaign and clothes should take you to that tropical island. It’s purely to make everybody happy … and look good.” You can judge for yourself how good everybody looks in the video below.

Michael Bastian looked to his own college days in Boston—specifically to a trio of close friends: a mod girl, her boxer beau and himself—for inspiration for this Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, hoping to crystallize that time (the ’80s) and place. Among some other period films, Pretty In Pink was projected during the unveiling at Exit Art in Manhattan, and there’s definitely a sophisticated Ducky vibe running through the looks.

We always count on GANT for gently updated American sportswear, and Bastian’s clean capture of a specific point in the past serves that aim well. These wares are creative and sometimes daring without being freaky or intimidating to GANT devotees (we assume there are some of you out there). While we are in no hurry to rock any of these complete looks (some of them for fear of looking like a total Steff), there are lots of fetching (or should we say “fetch”) pieces to choose from.

After showcasing their sunglasses during his runway shoes, Michael Bastian and Randolph Engineering (RE) finally announce their full collection of 15 looks for Summer 2011. RE, based in Randolph, MA is one of a handful of eyewear makers still producing in the United States. The Michael Bastian collection comes after years of personal work between the two brands. “Randolph Engineering prides itself on authenticity, brand excellence and superior quality also exemplified by Michael Bastian. This brings together a flawless fusion undoubtedly on a path to great success and long term partnership.”

Set for release in Autumn 2011, the MB-1 and MB-2 are the first watches designed by Michael Bastian for GANT. Each will be produced in a limited edition of 1949 – referencing the year of Gant’s corporate birth – and comes with two strap options.

The watches will launch at Barney’s and retail at $395.
