Selectism - mister-freedom-vest-01

It’s getting really cold out in these parts which means it’s time to get serious about this wrapping up warm business. A vest like this is always a good addition to your arsenal and it’d look good underneath a big jacket and on top of a (relatively) thin knit. (Superdenim)

Song remains the same, take a leap to see those shots.

Selectism - Mister Freedom Black Mulholland Master Jacket

When you talk about construction to the extreme, Mister Freedom does come to mind. Check this “riding” jacket in all it’s glory over at Self Edge. “Due to the popularity of the original Mulholland Master Jacket Mister Freedom has paid a short revisit to the piece by turning it into a cleaner version by employing a black jungle cloth fabric and forgoing the clip clasps for black Fiocchi snap buttons over the 1930’s style ‘hookless’ zipper. This version of the jacket also comes with white & indigo plaid checkered accents and a black windproofing leather inside the zipper cover flap.”

Selectism - Mister Freedom 1st Gear Collection Autumn/Winter 2009

Mister Freedom drops a great set of looks for their 1st Gear collection entitled, “Speed-Safe Clothing for Modern Riders.” 1st Gear or Autumn/Winter 2009 as we prefer to call it, is a short run collection of finely tailored goods. “With the “Speed-Safe Clothing for Modern Riders” collection Mister Freedom delves deep into the vaults of lost designs and modifies them to today’s needs of riders and non-riders of two wheeled motorized vehicles… Every piece is manufactured by Toyo Enterprises (Sugar Cane) with the utmost attention to detail, just as you’d expect from anything produced by Toyo and overseen by Mister Freedom himself, Christophe Loiron.”

Four pieces are bring shown as part of the 1st Gear collection. “Rider’s Dungarees made of a beautiful left hand twill denim, a Mechanic’s Shirt made of a indigo salt & pepper fabric similar to a medium weight chambray, a Mechanic’s Sweatshirt available in three colors with great detailing and fabric that has to be felt in person to be fully understood, and last but not least a Denim Rider’s Cap which is exclusive to Self Edge San Francisco outside of Japan.”

Selectism - Q&A with Mister Freedom

Denim Maniac has a nice interview with the people behind Mister Freedom. “The concept behind Mister Freedom is the brain child of French expatriate Christophe Loiron. Since 2003, MF’s brick building at Beverly Boulevard is filled with a huge inventory of vintage clothing, footwear and accessories for men and women from the 1850’s to the present alongside Loiron’s original creations. The 3200 sq ft retail space also offers rare textiles, vintage books as well as antique props for deco. This extensive eclectic collection of vintage items is collected around the world and updated regularly with new finds. Oh, and let’s not forget Mister Freedom also collaborates with Japanese manufacturing experts “Sugar Cane & Co” (of Tokyo based “Toyo Enterprises”) for a full line of clothing, made in USA and Japan.”

The third installment of the Mister Freedom ”MFSC Naval Clothing Tailors” collection has dropped and our favorite piece is this excellent denim vest. Made from selvedge MFSC denim “301,” the vest is made from 11oz cotton and is fitted with a shawl collar, slanted chest pockets, and beautiful 13 star peacoat style buttons. Two back secret pockets are made for maps, but they’ll work well for a flask as well. Available at Self Edge.

mister freedom spring summer 2009 01 Mister Freedom Spring/Summer 2009

Black Keys’ fanatics, A Continuous Lean (yeah I spelled it out!), gets the first looks at the forthcoming Spring/Summer 2009 collection from Mister Freedom. “The geniuses at Mister Freedom are at it again. The spring / summer goods are hitting the streets and San Francisco’s Self Edge was nice enough to send over the first images of the new “shore coat” and denim “signal vest.” The attention to detail on the Mister Freedom items is second to none. Like a lot of the work wear stuff I am into, this collection has to be styled (worn) in a certain way or you run the risk of looking like an extra in a WWII movie…”
