Gents, Monitaly is back for AW2012. Their strength is in outwear jackets, coats and all variants thereof. Wools are strong in patterns, stripes, and south west influence. Trousers and pants offer an array of options as well – expect heavy wools on garments made to last more than a few seasons.

Monitaly gets major love from writers. Rightfully so it would seem. This plaid wool mackinaw is a great example as to why. It brings just a slight toch of modernity to a coat that you would have likely five years ago passed on as being too much like your gramp’s garb. Monitaly delivers a small “resort” collection for Spring 2012. It is unlike their usual tailored looks with a focus on a more relaxed approach to leisure. The “ikat” look is brought to life on shorts, trouers, and pull-overs. Both yarn dyed and printed techniques are used to bring out the “ikat” flavor.

You know the worst thing about buying something now? The fact that it might go on sale any day now. We’ve all done it – bought something in a rush before seeing it in a sale a week or so later. We mean, do you return it and buy it again or just keep it? Before we go any more off topic, the reason we bring this up is because of this shirt. It’s currently full price and could enter the sale at any time. Do you roll the dice and purchase it at full price or play the waiting game and potentially see it get sold before you can buy it? These are the decisions that keep us up at night. (Garbstore)

One thing is for certain at Pitti: some brands are working to separate their looks from the encapsulating reign of heritage by bringing forth patterns (sometimes splatters) against well cut and quality made garments. Monitaly brings things to new bolder grounds with a series of shorts and blazers that clearly force the wearer to stand out. While Monitaly’s lookbooks can be hit or miss, we’re still fans of their products. Take  this field jacket for instance. It’s unlined and hooded, so perfect for spring showers and you can easily take it into winter if you thermal up enough. The plaid pattern is nice too – we only advise wearing plaid jackets over floral print shirts these days – spread pattern love, it’s the Brooklyn way. (Coggles)

Here’s a series of suede mocassins from the Monitaly line. The color and stitching on these is what sets them apart from the usual pack. Available in beige, light blue, and navy blue, the Monitaly mocs work well for the guy looking to get into a soft pair of ancient shoes that carry them in a shoe form that predates heritage. Bang on.
