Mountain Research Down Shirt

Selectism - mountain-research-down-shirt-01

We don’t blame you if you’re not into down shirts. They can be a bit fiddily, leading most people to use those dreaded words ‘hard to pull off’. But don’t fear, it’s not that difficult to wear. Just do what we do – get them a size too big and wear it as a jacket. (Garbstore)

Mountain Research Mod Utility Jacket

Selectism - mountain-research-utility-jacket-01

If you’re still looking for a good camo jacket and can’t find a suitable version down your local army surplus, let us point you in the right direction. This Mountain Research jacket has a cool camo pattern (and we’re all about cool camo and alliteration). It’s all organic cotton too, which would be a nice talking point at a rally. Just don’t bring up how much it cost. (Garbstore)

Mountain Research Farmer’s Shirt for Autumn 2010

Selectism - Mountain Research Farmer's Shirt for Autumn 2010

Japan’s Mountain Research offers this pull-over “farmer’s” shirt as part of their Autumn 2010 collection. The blood red/black plaid print works for me. The Mountain Research line is a strong one. Get on them.

Mountain Research Band Collar Shirt

Selectism - mountain-research-band-collar-shirt

It’s always a bit of a misnomer to say any piece of clothing is ‘coming back’ as nothing really leaves. So we’re just gonna say that we’re seeing a few more desirable pullover shirts lately. This one wouldn’t be so good for layering, given the band collar, but it’ll look great when summer comes and you can break out the shirt on its own.  The chest pocket detail is also rather fetching – a little pointless – but fetching nonetheless. Mountain Research Belted Coat

Selectism - Mountain Research Belted Coat

More items from the Mountain Research collection. This belted coat is cut from melton wool and features two distinct leather strapping for closure placed high up on the chest. This closure allows for the wearer to get some leg room for a nice jog while skirting the law. A great look. (arks)

Selectism - Mountain Research Cashmere Collars

Ah, yes. Mountain Research. Well, I’m not posting up about the Officer’s Jacket which they make. It is a common style parka jacket, but what makes it special is the optional zip in cashmere collar. Available in ivory or charcoal grey, the collar offers your neckine the comfort of a cashmere sweater in a down parka.

Tokyo | Mountain Research Socks

Selectism - Tokyo | Mountain Research Socks

We took a stroll through the Naka-meguro district of Tokyo. It may be one of the more laid back shopping districts that I have walked through. Running against the side of a canal (which the Tokyo Superfuture guide mentions as being a “glorified drain,”) Naka-mugero is also a choice living neighborhood for the city’s younger crowd.

We found the “….. Reasearch” store – aptly named for the subdivisions in the company’s “research”. This “research” is then presented as a collection. As of May 2009, they’re onto “Mountain Research” which explores outerwear and camping goods of all varieties. We’ll come back and cover more on this brand in the weeks to come but for now, I leave you with some photos of their vacuum sealed sock packaging. Take them with you on your next canoe ride and ensure dryness.

Mountain Research 3 “Low Minded Folk”

mountainresearch front Mountain Research 3 Low Minded Folk

The folks behind the Japanese “Research” brands are anything but low minded folk. Through exhaustive research, the products they present capture the best details, cuts, fabrics and styles of their chosen theme. Mountain Research, naturally, results in some stunning outerwear. Garbstore, the only outlet in the world to carry some of the larger sizes of Mountain Research, has just received the latest. There is a garment bag, and a ton of good things to stuff it with. Coats of several varieties, sharp shirts, rugby’s and even a basic long-sleeve. A bit of new Navel Research has also arrived, so if you’re thinking more coast than hill top, that’s covered.

More views from Mountain Research 3 follows.
