Mugler Sudios works with Spire Boats on a new concept Spire boat to be shown at the Monaco yacht show. The “retro-futuristic” Spire Boat is inpired by 1950’s muscle cars…. “Board by board and curve by curve, this extraordinary boat morphed into shape. The finished product looks as if part of a movie set or just something that emerged from the depths of the ocean.”

How Formichetti Got Rick Genest to Model in Mugler

HINT talks with Nicola Formichetti about the inclusion of Montreal’s Rick Genest (aka Zombie Boy) into the Mugler campaign for Autumn 2011. Maxime from Sang Bleu made the contact and Facebook brought it all together. But what next? In Formichetti’s words: “I called my friend Mariano [Vivanco, photographer] and my manager. We got together the first week after the holidays as I was about to leave for Paris to work on the last bit of the collection. I remember thinking I have to do this, I just have a gut feeling, I have to work with this guy. Everyone said he’s a freak, why would I want to do that to a luxury brand? Anyway, I didn’t listen to anyone and just went. I brought some clothes, a couple of suits, and I actually made lots of clothes the night before I left New York. I had pieces sent from Paris and was just making stuff in my house, and then took everything to Montreal and we did a photo shoot and video. The photos are the ones we just launched as a visual campaign.”

Mugler Men's Fall 2011

Style gives their take on the new Formichetti collection for Mugler. “Their clothes mostly read as new—not old—Mugler. They borrowed certain signatures from the house’s expansive vocabulary: the strong shoulders on the jackets, the shorn lapels, something of the originator’s talent as a colorist. But they were quieter than Mugler’s own brand of bombast, and less witty; they brought out the sinister side of suiting, the darker connotations of uniform. Formichetti’s fabrics, especially the man-made neoprene, plastic, nylon, and latex, were sensuously textured but chilly—every other piece shone, but it was light without heat.”

More looks after the click.
