Muji Magnetic Tree Paper Clip Holder

Selectism - muji-paperclip-holder-01

We apologise in advance. This isn’t available until September 22nd – we’d understand if you couldn’t wait that long. Heck, we don’t even use paper clips and we’re gonna buy a bunch to use on this. And if you’re wondering if we’re so simple that we’re excited by a tree shaped paper clip holder then the answer is yes. Yes we are. (Muji)

Muji Houseshoes

Selectism - muji-houseshoes-01Unsurprisingly, we like feeling bawsy around the house. And, for us at least, the best way to do that is by wearing some bawse-like slippers. Actually slippers isn’t grand enough a name – we prefer the term ‘house shoes’. Our only problem with these is that we can’t walk down the street in them. Maybe someone should get on the blower to Birkenstock and tell them they’re missing a trick? (Muji)

Life With Green

Selectism - life-with-green-01

Spoon & Tamago lets us know about Life with Green, Flower Muji’s latest venture with Idee. Flower Muji is a spin-off from the main Muji line, originally starting up as a flower company back in 1996, while Idee is a furniture manufacturer that formed in 1976. Together they fight crime made this good looking line of furniture for the veranda in your home. It’s a Japan only product at the moment, so you’ll have to just admire it from a distance (unless you live in Japan, in which case you can buy it).

Selectism - Muji-Alpaca-Blanket-01

Have we gone so far that we’re now recommending blankets? Yes. Yes we have. Expect hole punches and dividers any day now. That said, we do quite like this blanket. And it’s made from alpaca, which makes it rugged, butch and extremely masculine. (Muji)

MUJI Noel Vending Machine

The Japanese love their vending machines – as do those walking through airports. An endless supply of goods may be purchased. Looking for a Hello Kitty vibrator? You can find one in a vending machine in Akihabara . Now, for those in Barcelona (and beyond), MUJI has setup a quick access vending machine for your shopping pleasure. (lost)

“MUJI” Book from Rizzoli

selectism - "MUJI" Book from Rizzoli

Thirty years ago, a company was established to counteract the increasingly unhealthy habits of consumer society. The initial idea was to be environmentally conscious, minimalist, and with “no brand.”

Today, MUJI is certainly recognizable. And, most would agree that the establishment of initial goals are now well and truly grounded.

MUJI MUJI Book from Rizzoli , releasing on October 26, 2010, from Rizzoli, is a delightful brand book. Essays from designer Jasper Morrison and John C. Jay bring the growth of the brand into firm perspective. They write gracefully, but without the back patting celebration one might expect. They are, like the brand itself, matter of fact. Their tone is reflective of the publication as a whole – one that honestly presents three decades of advertising, product, and unique retail space. © MUJI, Rizzoli New York, 2010

Muji Hinoki Wood Tin Candle

Selectism - muji-hinoki-wood-candle

We’re fans of this candle – well, as much a fan as you can be of a candle – for three reasons. 1) It smells nice 2) It’s cheap (£3.50) and 3) There’s more than a little nod to the Monocle X CDG candle. It’s essentially a very cheap way to get your Monocle on. (Muji)

Muji A6 Notebook

selectism - muji-a6-notebook

I’ve never understood expensive notebooks. We feature a lot of them but there are three of us here and we don’t always agree on everything. While I understand the argument that you can’t cheap out on clothing, why can’t you scrimp on paper? All you’re ever gonna do is write on it and then throw it away. Unlike a pair of shoes, paper is never going to last longer just because you spent more money on it or think Hemingway once used one.

This writer personally prefers notebooks like this. At 60p a pop, you can stock up on them, use them – something most Moleskine owners are a little scared to do – and throw them away as you please. Like we’ve said before, overspend on clothes and underspend on everything else – your wardrobe will thank you. (Muji)
