We’re fans of anything named after French film stars. You want to get on this blog call your product the Anna Karina. We’ll post it. And we’re not even joking*. And our undying love for French cinema means we were always bound to post up this loafer from Narrative. We also like the fact that’s it’s available in baby calf leather and a Kudu variety (the leather’s from Guidi & Rosellini), and feels softer than a newborn baby and will age like the offspring of two supermodels.

After a short hiatus, Narrative returns with their autumn collection. Entitled ‘lumiere noire’ it’s a dark affair, which should be a nice contrast for you forward looking fellas with your Obama denim. They use some great leathers, including Horse, Kudu, Cordovan and Vacchetta. It’s a shoeists dream and peta’s nightmare. We especially like the reworked wallaby, mainly because we’ve never really been fans of the soles on the original.

Now onto an old SL favourite in Narrative. After a couple of seasons off the radar, they’ve relaunched at the rate of a speeding shark. Clumsy references aside, their shark sole is a firm favourite of ours (and we have to note that they’ve been doing this for muuuuch longer than Prada, check our archives) and they’ve also cleaned up the wallaby. As someone who doesn’t think everything was perfected in 1960, we agree with any updates to classics that actually improve them.

We’ve featured these before but now they’re out in a summery suede we’ll feature them again. As we stated before, we’re anti-tucking denim into boots. Not as fervently against as, say, Mister Mort, but we’re not fans nonetheless. And, seeing as you didn’t ask, we much prefer the roll up look with these. As for the boots themselves, we’re big fans of the beige suede colouring, it’ll mesh pretty well with everyone from your standard indigo denim to some olive chinos. (ASOS)

We dropped a few previews of Narrative’s SS10 collection a while back, but here’s a look at the whole collection. Hybrid is the word of the season at Narrative towers, with more (successful) meshing of shoe styles than we’ve seen in any of their previous collections. There’s brogued up high tops and trainers – it’s not a new concept, but the execution is much better than we’re used to seeing. With shark soled chukkas, boat laces on desert boots and vibram soled oxfords, there’s plenty of CWT’s (Classics With a Twist) in the collection for the folks who like their shoes just that little bit different.

Narrative have been one of our favourite footwear brands for a while now, so it was only natural that we ask founder Scott Emerson for his top 5. Scott’s choices were an eclectic one (and not in the faux hipster way) ranging from Q-Tip to Fingers Inc.  Take a listen after the leap.

Now that winter’s here and everyone is talking about boots, we thought we’d show a nice little trainer alternative to chunky boot. Now that boots are back in fashion, the question now is ‘to tuck or not to tuck?’ Personally, we don’t believe in tucking in your boots, just roll your trousers a little a higher than usual. That way we can see enough of your boots and you won’t look like a Star Wars character. (ASOS)

We featured this way back in the day and a reader asked us to actually feature it when it dropped in stores. Well, here it is. ASOS have taken stock of one of our favourite shoes from the AW09 collection and it looks as good as ever. We don’t have much else to say about it really. If you like it, buy it – if not, then don’t. It’s day 3 of the ‘hot off the factory floor’ tour and today we’ve got these brogues to show you. If you’re into brogues, you’ve probably already got at least a couple of pairs – probably in tan, brown and black. So these suede brogues with the leather toe and heel cap are sure to stand out of your shoe collection. Trouser-wise, we’d recommend either regular old indigo denim or some chinos. Like the rest of the collection we’ve previewed, expect these to drop around January.

Here’s part two in the ‘hot off the factory floor’ tour. The saddle shoe’s dandified nature make them the natural step up for those who’ve grown a little tired of their brogues – and an easy target of ridicule. We’re ardent supporters of anyone attempting a dandy look, especially when everyone else is pretending to be an extra from Deer Hunter. Like the shoes featured yesterday, expect these to drop around January.
