Native Son – Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection #nyfw

11 February 2012, 00.34 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

fwnativeson 1 Native Son Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection #nyfw
As we already mentioned, Native Son has teamed up with Raleigh Denim in a quest to achieve perfect balance “in its ability to reference the past, exist in the present, and look forward to the future.” We detect a subtle bit of success with that here, as a rash of ’80s brattiness gears up to go, oh, I don’t know, fox hunting in jolly old England. Of course, subtext is subjective but the look pictured above seems to say “refined mallrat thuggery indeed.” And that’s what’s intriguing about all these offerings. They look serious without ever asking to be taken seriously.

Some other things we like here: lots of different fits, especially in the trousers; that brown leather jacket; the tux with the ditched bow tie; the long sweater sleeves; the short blue sweater (maybe). Not too jazzed on the fit of that brown patterned suit, though. Raleigh Denim’s contributions aren’t front-and-center here, but you can get a better look at them in yesterday’s post.

Native Son Teams with Raleigh Denim for Autumn/Winter 2012

NATIVESON 1 Native Son Teams with Raleigh Denim for Autumn/Winter 2012
For their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, Native Son has teamed with Raleigh Denim in order to find perfect balance in “its ability to reference the past, exist in the present and look forward to the future.” As for the near future, the two companies will spend the next four seasons developing products that hew to the culture and manufacturing integrity of denim in the 1880s. From these looks it seems like there’s a pair of jeans to suit most every taste from slim to tapered to carpenter. With all these options, we’re not sure why the model is so distraught.

Native Son Autumn 2011 Looks

Native Son sends us proper looks from their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.  Trousers are fit for a variety of lengths across suits that look solid. Various leather jackets are there as well but what’s interesting is the waist sash work that adds a finish to the looks that work well.

Isaac Rentz’s art installation for Native Son as part of their presentation at NYC Fashion Week 2011.

“The Track. The Train. The Traveler. Equal parts documentary and social experiment, the 15-minute piece focuses on three subjects (a carpenter, an artist, and a filmmaker) confined to a sealed 10-by-16-foot room for a total of 36 hours as a commentary on the social and creative process of creating an idea or environment that others have to inhabit.”

YouTube Preview Image

“If you were at the NATIVE SON Spring 2011 show, you were lucky enough to be the first to catch the debut of the second short film that designer Kyle Fizgibbons made in correlation with his line. If not, you can catch it when it debuts to the masses later this week. Our very own Mike Elmquist, the triple threat sales associate/model/budding filmmaker made this behind the scenes video to take us through their day on set and give you a taste of what’s to come for SS11!” (oc)

Selectism - Mosley Tribes for Native Son Eyewear

Here are some more detailed shots of the Mosely Tribes eyewear work for Native Son’s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. We previewed the eyewear with our preview of their collection. These shots show the simple details which make these shades and eyeglasses some of our favorites of the year. The frames are made from thick acetate making them awfully durable. I’m a fan.

Selectism - Native Son Autumn/Winter 2010 Lookbook

Former Band of Outsiders assistant, Kyle Fitzgibbons, continues exploring new takes on fashion with line, Native Son. Native Son fashions are designed and constructed to last for seasons in your wardrobe. Their new interpretations of classic suitings are made in the U.S.A. Native Son Autumn/Winter 2010 shys away from the striping of their Spring collection and the addition of an eye/sunglass collaboration with Mosley Tribes seems well thought out. Look for their 3-D presentation coming on February 11th.
