A four part story, Nepenthes showcases its impressive line in an editorial entitled Aaron. Floral shirts, they just refuse to go away, this is Nepenthes NY Special from Engineered Garments Workaday is a particularly fine example. Paired with a Needles casual blazer, S2W8 shorts in an awesome shade of lilac and some heavy Birkenstock action, this is an outfit to admire.

Some bold ass colors from the Nepenthes line for SS2012 with the “Loop on Back” shirts. We’ll let tell them story. “The fabric is created using a Batik printing technique that ensures that no two stripes are alike; making each shirt unique. The loop (locker loop, fairy loop, fruit loop) found on the back of the shirt… we learned that when a girl liked a boy she would rip his loop off to show that she was interested” Nice one bruv.

The Nepenthes store in NYC is buried somewhere away from the normal haunts. While you would expect it to be in SOHO, the Nepenthes shop is well up on 38th and 8th Ave. Respect for bucking the trend and for making the Nepenthes shop, and all those pizzerias around it hawking $1 slices, a full on destination for all things Needles, Engineered Garments, South 2 West 8.

We recently took a Titelmedia field trip to their shop where I tried on every variation of these floral golf jackets. While the patterns may not be the best fit for me, they fucking look great. The cut of the Nepenthes golf jacket is just right on and very different from the current EG season that fits more stocky-like. I, for one love these patterns. I am sure about 1% of you do as well and, as well all know, you are the only person that matters when contemplating this purchase.

Engineered Garments hand down more spring and summer goods for our enjoyment. The “Andover” is a continuing style season to season; this version is a lightweight cotton and while it is a smarter piece in cut, it is also the kind of jacket you could roll up and crease out without too many worries. A crumple here and there just suggests you live an exciting life and have neither the time nor inclination to iron.

If plaid is a little too Ivy for your liking there’s also an excellent polka dot version which also receives our seal of approval. More at Nepenthes.

Nepenthes and Alfred Sargent have finally got it together. They’ve designed two pieces of footwear,  drawing together their considerable talents for one style each of shoe and boot.

A strong Scottish Ghillie feel with the laces, as Nepenthes describes; ‘The Huntsman group features a hybrid Norwegian and Goodyear welted construction, a unique premium leather upper and a rubber commando sole.’ We really like the slightly off beat choice of style. We’re all for sticking with the well known classics, but it’s nice to see a collaboration throw up something a little unexpected.

Park & Bond mean business with their newest addition. The Nepenthes shop-in-shop will offer a rare opportunity to buy the brand online. It’s hard to believe that this Japanese label has been doing its thing since 1988. When it introduced its first U.S store in New York last year east coast lovers of oddball heritage finally had a place to call home. Now it opens its arms to a wider audience with one offs and exclusives as well as pieces from family members Needles and Engineered Garments. Nepenthes’ own, store manager Abdul Abasi, takes on modelling duties for the site. Get stuck in over at Park & Bond.

Nepenthes New York highlights various key pieces from their Needles, Engineered Garments and South 2 West 8 mainlines for Autumn/Winter 2011. Photographed in Times Square by Ryan Kibler, the shots help open the experience to this Japanese houses heavily “New York” (or America in general) inspired collection of unstructured tailored looks that while oversized to some extent are constructed from the very best in textiles.

Well maybe not a true collection, but Italy’s Barena outfits a slew of looks for Nepenthes. The outwear and looks chosen by Nepenthes will fit their clientele well in terms of styling and cut. Looks run from coats to knit vests. Well worth a look.

We’re not crazy about ankle socks. They’re usually too much of a halfway house for our tastes. But these Nepenthes socks are making us reconsider our hardline stance. That said, we’re still on the fence with ankle socks, we’ve had too much experience to let some bright colours fool us. That said, if you’re the ankle sock type (and have a willingness to go through a proxy for a pair of socks) these are the ones for you. (Arknets)
