PROJECT recaps their New York City men’s show with a great video that helps remind people that the traditional fashion tradeshow experience is changing for the better. Worth a viewing of course. Well done, guys.

In his pre blockbuster days Stanley Kubrick found himself taking snaps on the streets of 1940s New York. Age 17 he sold his first piece to Look magazine and soon found himself on their books as a freelance photojournalist.  ”From 1946 to 1950, Kubrick worked for the magazine, completing more than 300 assignments documenting the sights and people of New York City”. With an obvious filmic quality to this early work, these shots are full of drama, movement and the sense of a storyline in motion. More at The Inspiration Grid.

A little shop walk through this Thursday. We take a look inside the Levi’s Tailor Shop in New York City. Watch as the “tailors” in shop work over some garments for their customers. Cut, sew, repair – and repeat.

Reminder that the Rugby Ralph Lauren sponsored “Tweed Run” is happening in New York City October 15. Get your old school bike and musty jackets out of the closet. Shop through their vintage stores and look like you belong in a scene from an old flick or video set in ole time London (with love of course). “We’ll be outfitted for the occasion in traditional British cycling attire, particularly tweed blazers, knickerbockers and riding caps. Supernews brings us looks at the new Aesop flagshop in Nolita. With an interior focused on the exploration of newspaper in construction (”reclaimed copies of The New York Times have been used as a building material”), the shop looks to pay homage to the city’s history in print and writing. They look to also be screening some Criterion titles inside the shop. Find the new Aesop Shop at 232 Elizabeth St in New York City.

Scott Morrison, founder of Earnest Sewn and Paper Denim delivers a new denim-focused concept shop, 3×1,  in SOHO that looks to push the boundaries of limited edition clothing. The 3×1 flagship produces on-site most garments sold in the store. “3×1’s offering of men’s and women’s denim products are each in of themselves limited-edition styles, as the in-house production is limited to between 8-24 pieces of any given style, and less than 25 pieces are made per day.  A bespoke denim service is also offered, allowing patrons to work individually with Morrison and his pattern-maker to create his or her own pair of jeans from start to finish.” Find them at 15 Mercer St. in New York City.

Malin + Goetz has opened the doors on their third boutique and their second in New York City. The Upper West Side digs for the new Malin + Goetz space misex “neoclassical walnut panels salvaged from a demolished Long Island mansion” against “clinical white counters” as seen in their Chelsea store. “The store stands on the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and 82nd Street, which is known locally as ‘le gran esquina’ (the big corner).  As this space was previously occupied by a Puerto Rican barbershop, Malin+Goetz have retained the original barbershop sign, in tribute to the location’s heritage.” (wallpaper*)

(capsule) Show continues their world tour with a stop in New York City, next week, after a very successful showing in Paris recently. For two days, beginning Monday, July 20, (capsule) once again takes over the Angel Orensanz 172 Norfolk St. location showcasing collections from the likes of April77, Folk, Mjolk, S***R, Spring Court, SUPER, Wood Wood, and many others.
