With the recent launch of their flagship store in San Francisco, Nice Collective their version of the v-neck shirt. Their “Stripped V-Neck” shirt is a key piece for this season. The shirt comes in an “off-white” fabric and has a very re-engineered look. A handful of frayed seams at the ribbing and sleeves make for a industrial look without losing any of its appeal. The v-neck also has an overlapping “V” style which is unique. The NCS-1007 V-neck will be a interesting shirt to see after a few washes.

You may have heard at the “Plastiki“ ship which sailed from San Francisco to Sidney, Australia. “Adventure Ecology Founder and environmentalist de Rothschild and his crew arrived in Sydney this week on the Plastiki, a unique 60ft catamaran engineered from approximately 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles and srPET.” For the expedition, Nice Collective works over a special hooded sweatshirt. “In keeping with ‘Plastiki’s’ mission, many of the materials used are reclaimed, recycled or environmentally low-impact. Nice Collective and their family of SF based craftsmen produced the majority of the clothing locally. Materials such a Linen, organic cotton, merino wool, washed leather and repurposed military tents and blankets were sun bleached and salt washed before being tailored into garments.”

The team at Nice Collective have opened the doors to their latest online project called The Storeroom. “The StoreRoom is an online “community” shop for design aficionados looking for custom and rare Nice Collective additions to their wardrobe or home… Each item produced for The StoreRoom is handcrafted by Nice Collective. These exclusive  design offerings will highlight various aspects of Nice Collective’s design process and will not be sold at any other locations.”

One of the first products to enter The Storeroom is this handmade Scrap Metal Leather Combat Boot. The Scrap Metal version “is hand-buffed with used motor oil and infused with tiny scraps of engine metal.” Be sure to check the site for other items.

The good people at The Fashionisto sat down with designer, Joe Haller for some insight into Nice Collective’s Spring 2009 Collection entitled, “Voix de Ville.” When asked about the “ruggedness” of the collection, Mr. Haller said, “If there’s a rugged sensibility to the collection, it wasn’t a conscious or contrived decision on our part, but rather a byproduct of the season’s theme, “Voix de Ville.” We were thinking about a Vaudeville / traveler / carny aesthetic that lead to a rugged and slightly dark overtone and honestly, we’re thrilled by the results.”

“Voix de Ville” is the title of the Spring 2009 Collection from San Francisco’s Nice Collective. Fashionisto correct in describing the line as “transmit[ing] an uncharacteristic ominous, but striking vibe.” There is a well worn wear to the collection that should not be confused with distressed. Fits are slim to relaxed in the Nice Collective looks. Casual goodness.
