Ghostly International “Thy Will Be Done” Notebook by Sruli Recht

Ghostly International should be known by some. We featured their bizarre totem piece delivered with the last Matthew Dear record. Today, we highlight a “antiquity” notebook worked over with one of Iceland’s modern design minds. They call it. “Thy Will Be Done.” “Our first product collaboration with Reykjavik-based designer Sruli Recht is a notebook for the ponderous. Save for the virgin pages, it resembles a book from antiquity. From the textured leather cover, to the water-warped paper, to the horseshoe nails that bind its pages, it is as much about tactility as it is functionality. Even in a digital era, the weight of words still bears meaning.”

Muji A6 Notebook

selectism - muji-a6-notebook

I’ve never understood expensive notebooks. We feature a lot of them but there are three of us here and we don’t always agree on everything. While I understand the argument that you can’t cheap out on clothing, why can’t you scrimp on paper? All you’re ever gonna do is write on it and then throw it away. Unlike a pair of shoes, paper is never going to last longer just because you spent more money on it or think Hemingway once used one.

This writer personally prefers notebooks like this. At 60p a pop, you can stock up on them, use them – something most Moleskine owners are a little scared to do – and throw them away as you please. Like we’ve said before, overspend on clothes and underspend on everything else – your wardrobe will thank you. (Muji)

Moleskine “Helvetica” 50th Anniversary Notebooks

I present this because I know we all desire the look of a Swiss passport. Nothing says neutral as well as a red bound notebook with an “equilateral white cross.” We can all accomplish this by getting out hands on one of the 500 special edition Moleskine Notebooks in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Helvetica typeface. The Moleskine was developed with the help of Japanese design collective Groovisions. Find it now in red and black skin at Moleskine Asia. (via drawn.ca)
