N. Hoolywood Autumn/Winter 2012 - Runway #nyfw

With inspiration coming from Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea,” designer, Daisuke Obana presents the N. Hoolywood Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. The touches to ports of call are apparent and done well: short pants with seafaring knit tops and striped numbers. No arguing that the collection is a strong fit for all.

Billy Reid Autumn/Winter 2012 - Debut Runway #nyfw

Delivering on a new platform, Billy Reid took to the runway to showcase his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection for men and women that delivers the strongest collection yet from the designer. Tailoring on the garments and controlled fits clearly cater to a more sophisticated of Southern charm while opening the racks for gentlemen of all natures. This is indeed classic American menswear which is stepping out of the backwoods and into both forward casual and formal territory. The story here is told through the cuts, fabrics and growth.

Rag & Bone Autumn/Winter 2012 - Runway #nyfw

It is late and we need to run to one more show, but before we do, let’s take a look at the rag & bone collection for Autumn Winter 2012 which WWD describes as: “an authoritative men’s collection heavy on military themes — sweeping tweed officer’s coats with shearling collars and herringbone cavalry pants tucked into leather boots.” Looks are good but I would love to know more about their team-up with AT&T and Samsung for the Galaxy Note launch. Not much on the Facebook page at the moment.

General Idea “After Games” – Autumn/Winter 2012 – Runway #nyfw

General Idea designer, Burnsuk Choi must love him some hockey. The designer pulled cues from archival photography shot during the 1968 Winter Olympic games. “After Games” as the collection is called, is a “transformation between sportswear uniforms and everyday ready-to-wear.” Uniform designs are present the fitted looks presented by Choi. Choice outwear pieces continue to point at the coming of that sports-inspired outerwear movement we’ve been patiently waiting for.

By the way, HEAD, the sportwear company helped collaborate on key portions of the General Idea collection for AW2012.

Richard Chai Autumn/Winter 2012 – Runway #nyfw – Filson Hits

richard chai fall winter 2012 19 Richard Chai Autumn/Winter 2012 Runway #nyfw Filson Hits

The Richard Chai/Filson affair was front and center this morning at Richard Chai’s Autumn/Winter 2012 runway show, part of New York Fashion Week, and not just in accessories (as mentioned earlier in the week, Chai is now creative director of Filson). Fabrics and textiles used throughout Chai’s collection look to be sourced from Filson’s own archive and fashioned in a manner that really does hint as a merging of two styles: the boxy fits – standards in the Filson collection – make their presence on the runway along with more tailored long coats. The inspiration as noted is Richard Chai “in the wood.” It certainly looks to be the case in a positive manner.

steven alan fallwinter 2012 new 1 Steven Alan Autumn/Winter 2012 Presentation #nyfw

Steven Alan starts off New York Fashion Week 2012 with his Autumn/Winter 2012 presentation of garments for the boys and girls. Lounging New York casual is the feeling we (always) get from Mr. Alan. Always a strong mix looks that work just about everywhere (we like to say for the everyman), the collection also features a wide selection of complimentary footwear that runs from kicks to proper shoes. Spend some time exploring one of the more friendly designers out there.

Now updated with more detailed images.

Simon Spurr Spring/Summer 2012 Runway

Simon Spurr Spring Summer 2012

Following up on our backstage looks, here’s the full runway presentation from Simon Spurr. The key terms from the designer are “architectural minimalism with sartorial functionality.” Graphic patterns in the Simon Spurr collection are inspired by British Naval “dazzle” camo; also known by the more appropriate “razzle dazzle.” Worth a look.

Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2012 Runway

Nicholas K Spring 2012 has designers’ Nicholas Kunz and Christopher Kunz drawing inspiration from the “evasive beauty of aerial landscapes and natural transparencies. Images taken from beyond the troposphere blur the natural into abstract shapes and paths. Transparent Landscapes combines a sense of natural movement with Nicholas K’s ever present interest in functionality, such as detachable scarves and two-in-one Men’s jackets…”

Bespoken Spring/Summer 2012 Presentation

Bespoken sticks to the casualness of Spring 2012 with their presentation during New York Fashion Week. The tone is set with the greys in the collection against trenches and jackets where garments give the wearer some space to exhale safely. Upper class casual done right.

G-Star Begins Hunt for NYFW Runway Reporters

Selectism - G-Star Begins Hunt for NYFW Runway Reporters

It’s clear that media coverage of the global “fashion weeks” is no longer limited to the print and TV press outlets. The steady growth of online media properties as well as the interaction of social media networks into our daily lives has allowed for information to be disseminated at a pace and speed like no time before.  2009 was clearly the year for brands from all ends of the market to embrace “new media” and 2010 is shaping up to be even stronger.

G-Star Raw is taking this to heart with their  ”search for the best unsigned talent on the web to report live from New York Fashion Week. The world’s best Tweeters, Flickrs, Facebookers and YouTube film-makers will be recruited to file raw reports live from the most exciting fashion week in the world.” Through their site, nyfw-g-star.com, “reporters can put themselves forward for consideration and sign up with their social media account. The winners will be chosen by [the] public; the writer, photographer or film maker with the most votes wins…” The concept is an interesting one.
