Selectism - NYT: Dress for Less and Less

A great article in the Sunday edition of the NYT newspaper on the decreasing cost of some staples in day to day fashion. "As luxury fashion has become more expensive, mainstream apparel has become markedly less so. Today, shoppers pay the same price for a basic Brooks Brothers men’s suit, $598, as they did in 1998. The suggested retail price of a pair of Levi’s 501 jeans, $46, is about $4 less than it was a decade ago. A three-pack of Calvin Klein men’s briefs costs $21.50, only $3.50 more than in 1998. One gentleman’s "colorist introduced him to Color Camo by Redken for Men, a product offered only in salons that is said to add subtle ash or gold tones to gray hair so it blends in with the remaining natural color. About 60 percent of Mr. Hayman’s locks have gone gray, but Color Camo reduces his silver to a few modest streaks, he said, explaining that “I can choose how much gray remains and it looks natural.”

Selectism - NYT - A Little Older, but the Surf’s Still Up

New York Times’s has a great article in their Fashion & Style section on Newport Beach’s Trovata. “The surf inspired clothing line has been a favorite went through some major changes in 2006. “Trovata’s carefree veneer peeled away like sunburned skin. Citing creative differences, the foursome split up: Messrs. Halmos and Shipley went off to design a line; Mr. Lamberto-Egan moved to the Pacific Northwest with his girlfriend; and Mr. Whitledge assumed the role of president and sole creative director of the line.”
