Sad news on the fashion coming from Obedient Sons & Daughters. From the official press release on the matter:

Today Christina and Swaim Hutson regretfully announce the closing of Obedient Sons, LLC due to complications with the brand’s primary investor and their current minority ownership interest. In the past year, the brand has had tremendous growth and success; however, during this time there has not been sufficient capital to support the growth. The company’s current ownership structure has presented the challenge of bringing on additional outside investors. “For the last year, we have continuously fought to maintain daily operations and have exhausted all alternatives and at this point we need to move on,” said Swaim Hutson.

Fans of the Hutson’s will be happy to know that “Christina and Swaim plan to exit the brand and launch a new label with sole ownership set to premier at their February 14, 2009 runway show in New York.”

Obedient Sons has just opened the doors of their online shopping site, “The Shirt Shoppe.” Now from all corners of the webs you can shop their brand, picking and choosing the best looks to work yourself pretty. Best of all, for the holidays, all items are up to 30% off. Press send on that.

Men.style comes through with the word on select Japan only pieces from the Obedient Sons line making its way to US shores via NYC’s BBlessing. Economics may be playing it’s game on this one but you’ll be able to score these Japan exclusive pieces for a fairly reduced rate. As Men.style describes the Japan looks, “Think snug but beautiful suiting that tends toward the smoking-jacket sort. There are, however, those pieces that we imagine make more sense in Japan, like suit pants gathered at the ankles with thick, sweatsuit-like elastics. Rest assured that there’s plenty here for the slightly less daring gaijin…”

Web designer Matthew Siskin, is becoming well known for translating designers’ often intimate vocabulary to the Internet. The overlapping Persian rugs in Obedient Sons & Daughters’ design studio inspired the oversize, horizontal approach to the fashion label’s  website. “I wanted to create that exact feeling you get when you walk into their office — to take their specific little world and put it online.” Framed ephemera such as the covers of vintage Penguin paperbacks and psychedelic Peter Max-designed posters jump from the walls to the Web, presented in seamless, scanning transitions. R29 reports on the runways shows from Obedient Sons New York Fashion Week show. "Coming off of their oversized-hipster plaid line last fall, the spring/summer collection worked outside of prevailing trends, concentrating on washed-out beachwear shot through with pink and mint stitching. This was a far more mature and mainstream Obedient than we’ve seen before…"

Blackbird has stocked a great look for the fall season from Obedient Sons – The Standard Continental Jacket. "This jacket has two buttons, a single vent in the back, and two interior pockets (double welt, standard sized). It features working buttons at the cuff, canvased construction, a single welt chest pocket, and the two front pocket flaps may be tucked in for double welt pockets."
