Store Visit | Oliver Spencer, SOHO London

26 January 2012, 12.00 | Posted in Design, Fashion, stores | No comments »

Oliver 22

Another welcome addition to the Soho menswear roster, we finally found our way down to the new Oliver Spencer store located on Berwick Street. Regulars to the area will recognise this as the former site of Textile King fabrics however the interior has received a complete overhaul and the space has a very different feel to its predecessor. Following on from Lambs Conduit Street Stores, this is a wood heavy affair – old school desks, firewood, cabinets, heavy benches – parquet even finds itself lining the walls. A great space put together with attention to detail and a good eye.

Oliver Spencer – The Quay Jacket

oliver spencer pullover 01 Oliver Spencer The Quay Jacket

A pullover style jacket from the ever reliable Oliver Spencer. The key to this piece is tha fact that it actually isn’t a pullover. A concealed zip means that any embarrassing getting stuck in your own jacket moments can be avoided. As great as pullover jackets are, once you’re in them, you’re in them. This particular model, The Quay, has two button down breast pockets, three hidden pockets, waxed panels on the shoulders and a plaid lining. 100% wool,  Made in England; London to be exact.

Oliver Spencer Oli Gloves

Oliver Spencer adds a personal touch to his accessories for Autumn Winter 2011 with these Oli Gloves. The mitten/fingerless option has become a bit of a must if you hope to make any use of your smartphone while out and about this winter. Sure, you could just take your gloves off, but if you can keep at least 50% of your hand warm while you send that picture of a dog in a hat then why not. Moss green wool, with peanut suede palms for added grip, find them flipped or unflipped over at Oliver Spencer.

Video | Oliver Spencer Spring Summer 2012

Oliver Spencer offer us a front row seat with this video from their London Fashion Week show at Covent Garden’s Mercer Street Studio. If Mr.Spencer has his way we’re going to be close friends with the blazer come Spring time. A staple throughout most of his collections, his latest offerings come in single and double breasted varieties and range from relaxed to a more tailored cut, smart enough for any formal work situation you might find yourself in. Other stand out items include a loose cut trouser in various fabrics and colours, as well as some nice casual shirts and a brief appearance by the breton which can only be a good thing.

Also showing on menswear day is Oliver Spencer, one of the new school O.G’s – if that makes sense. The collection is what you’d expect from Mr Spencer, all relaxed tailoring, handsome knits and great shoes. We think the double breasted number above is the sort of thing that only Ray J and the money team could pull off.

See the collection for yourself after the leap.

Oliver Spencer Holdall

16 August 2011, 16.00 | Posted in Accessories | No comments »

Oliver Spencer Holdall

The past few seasons has seen Oliver Spencer expand their lines whilst strategically unifying a core aesthetic, focusing on the continued development of both garments and accessories.

The later has benefited from what feels like a greater level of attention, most recently demonstrated by the introduction of A/W’s leather holdall. The bag comes in chocolate brown or tan, both of which feature a striking camo-print lining, providing a concealed contrast to the minimal outer. It also includes a detachable canvas shoulder strap and front-mounted pockets. The pockets secure with two simple rivets as not to distract from the intentional simplicity of the piece, a sure indicator of the brands continued commitment to quality detailing. The bag is currently available from the Oliver Spencer store. -jr

Oliver Spencer Bedford Shoe

Selectism - oliver-spence-bedford-shoe-01

Here’s something for the man who can’t get enough red bricks in their life. Mr. Spencer has just released the Bedford shoe, the newest addition to his growing range. The main difference between this and most red brick shoes is that the sole’s much slimmer than other versions, making them easier on the eye for chunky sole haters. The fact that it’s a dainite sole is a nice touch. Especially for anyone who’s had the horror of realising that smooth red brick soles are like wearing roller blades in wet weather. It’s not available in stores yet, but look for it as part of their autumn/winter drop.

Oliver Spencer Shorts

Now here’s something that’s actually appropriate for right now – shorts. If you’re the type of person who’s still dilly dallying – yeah we said it, dilly dallying – over whether to wear shorts then these shorts should help sway you. They’re called skinny on the site but bear in mind that Oliver Spencer skinny is a long way from Cheap Monday skinny. They’re more of a tailored cut that should flatter, not flatten your legs. Selectism - oliver-spencer-spring-2012-01

While we’d worried that Oliver Spencer had gone all fashion with a catwalk show, it looks like he’s still doing the tradeshow thing. On the footwear side of things he’s added some loafers and even some trainers to the mix. Elsewhere it’s the Oliver (or Olly as we call him) you know and love, with polka dotted shirts and casual blazers making an appearance.

Hop to it!

Selectism - oliver-spencer-diffusion-shoes-01

Diffusion line time! This time it’s a first look at Oliver Spencer’s turn who, after his go on the catwalk, is creating a lower priced shoe diffusion line for the folks who can’t do the fusty old man shoes but want to leave their sneakerhead days behind them. There’s only two shoes in this line, the ‘Cricket’ (pictured above) is a lightweight derby and the ‘Kyak’ is a moccasin-esque boot. They’re only available in Spencer’s new shoe shop, so if you really love them you’ll have to pop in, get your proxy on or, you know, wait.

Take a leap to  see more shots.
