Contrast soles are always the way forward for Spring/Summer collections but this one manages to stand out of the increasingly packed crowd. A testament to the speed of the internet, it was only a few weeks ago that people were salivating over the show preview and now it’s in stores already. We can’t say much about this shoe that hasn’t already been said so we’ll leave on this final thought; Aren’t they some handsome boots? (Oliver Spencer)

Song remains the same, take a leap to see detailed images of the boot.

There’s an abundance of stuff we shot at capsule, so any trade show haters should look elsewhere….now. If you’re still here (and if you’re reading this sentence that means you are) then you should enjoy an early look at Oliver Spencer’s AW10 footwear range. The concise collection features full grain leather oxfords and brogue boots, which have the added advantage of a slim vibram sole – perfect for the man who doesn’t want to look like he’s wearing butch wedges.

Oliver Spencer Fishtail Trousers

So here’s the problem. We like trousers, but most versions are so lightweight and slim fit that you can see a visible outline of our thighs whilst we walk. It’s not a pretty sight. The solution is get some weightier trousers – they cope far better in poor weather and they won’t look like you’re exposing yourself. Oliver Spencer’s fishtail trousers do the job great and they even come unfinished, so you can hem them to your satisfaction. You could even leave them unhemmed and roll them up – although we wouldn’t recommend that. (Oliver Spencer)

Oliver Spencer Farringdon Boot

We guarantee that any vertically-challenged men are drooling at the prospect of this boot. It combines the wedge sole (aka the sole for the short) with a distinctly gruff looking leather upper; making a shoe to appease those who didn’t like the idea of wedged dress shoes. Best thing about this? It comes from a designer respected within workwear circles – both real and phony – so you can go about your daily duties without fear of being attacked by the heritage mafia. (Oliver Spencer)

Monocle for Oliver Spencer Oxford Shirts

Monocle, aka the only magazine success story of 2009, have collaborated with Oliver Spencer on a set of oxford shirts. They’ve had a few collab missteps lately (yes, we mean those awful Beams watches) but with this and the recent Bill Amberg collab, it looks they’ve got their mojo back. The shirts themselves are available in white and blue and they’re strictly limited edition (60 in each colour). They’ll be available in Oliver Spencer and Monocle’s physical and online stores from early September.

Take the leap to see detailed shots of this collab.

Oliver Spencer ‘Ridley’ Navy Jacket

While we love making random jibes about the preppy/workwear movement (say what you want, we still think ‘Take Ivy’ was a bit boring) there’s much to be admired in the trend as well. For instance, look at this Oliver Spencer jacket. It’s got all the poncey fashion details we like – the contrast buttons, the worn-in cotton – but it’s also got a detachable hood. And not just any old flimsy detachable hood, this one is made from the same sturdy material the rest of the jacket. Perfect for those windy, rainy summer days, so basically perfect for anyone in England or New York. (Oliver Spencer)

Oliver Spencer Shawl Collar Cardigans

31 July 2009, 10.30 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

If there’s anything you can learn from this post, it’s that we’re a sucker for a shawl. There’s no shortage of shawl collars out this season (now that we’re officially in AW09, according to the slightly barmy fashion gods) but a good one will always catch our eye.

This Oliver Spencer cardigan is lightweight enough to wear during a chilly summer’s day (i.e. all summer days in London) and even has a nice breast pocket – althoughwe doubt it’ll be able to hold anything substantial. It’s also on sale  – isn’t everything right now? – and comes in at £67.50 (down from £135). (Oliver Spencer)

Oliver Spencer Oli’s Jeans

The magic words in denim seem to revolve around the following three: “japan,” “selvedge,” and “wash.” For some reason Oliver Spencer uses none of them to describe their new addition, the UK made, “Oli’s Jean.” “Oli’s jean” is a straight-fit, everyday jean that has been cold washed after production for a less rigid look and a more comfortable handle – they are of course made in England. You can even choose between a classic contrast stitch or a more subdued, tonal stitch.” I guess “raw” would be a fourth, but who’s counting at the moment.

Oliver Spencer Field Jacket

A fresh take on the field jacket from Oliver Spencer. Made in the UK, the field jacket is finished in a theobald dark grey color and is made from 100% cotton. Careful with the shrink. Stick with the dry cleaning. The button closures are about as good as it gets against the grey tone of the piece. A nice slim fit gives it a look proper for all the homeys in the trad land. Oliver Spencer Autumn/Winter 2009 Preview

oliver spencer autumn 2009 01 Oliver Spencer Autumn/Winter 2009 Preview

All fans of Johnny Depp should look away now. After using a Depp doppleganger in their last couple of lookbooks, Oliver Spencer have decided to use a more traditional model. While Jack Sparrow fans will be disheartened, we can’t help but feel that when the model gets more attention than the clothes, it’s time to move on.

As for the clothes, you know the drill by now for Oliver Spencer – impeccably made basics, contemporary touches to classic clothing, that sort of thing. We’re fans in particular of the collars on the shirts and the waxed cotton jacket that’s remarkably un-Barbouresque, if you know what we mean.

Take a look at the collection after that hop and skip.
